Related: About this forumFOR TONIGHT: Please, please refrain from posting a new thread for every idle thought
Post your comment instead in an existing thread.
It will be crazy enough here, and difficult enough to follow, without a lot of unnecessary threads.
Thankyou.

(49,010 posts)Basically, an OP that assumes everybody shares the same context they do (as if they were sitting on their couch or holding their keyboard for them) is unnecessary.
An OP that is content free and simply expostulates a wild approval of disapproval without even a brief explanation or discussion is an OP that has zero depth and is unnecessary.

(53,339 posts)There were some years when I volunteered my home for a polling place.
For a couple of years, going to the polls was a simple matter of waking up and walking into my living room.

(182,830 posts)I've heard of people voting in neighbor's houses or in their neighborhoods but I've never experienced it myself.

(9,771 posts)I love DU, but couldn't we all get behind a a bit of consolidation? Do we really need ten different OPs on the same exact same news item? And, yeah, a lot of OPs would fit nicely as a reply to an already existing thread.
Maybe it's just me and my OCD...

(11,833 posts)We're really looking out for each other.
I totally agree with you by the way. Tomorrow's gonna be nuts. I expect about a dozen 'Hillary's Got This' new threads.
Helen Borg

(11,833 posts)For example, if someone posts a thread entitled 'Hillary is President' new thread, that's cool.
More new threads entitled:
Hillary Wins!
Hillary is the Winner!
Hillary is President!
Just as I Predicted, Hillary Wins! and
Winner is Hillary!
might be considered less 'necessary.'
Helen Borg
(3,963 posts)Would that thread be "necessary" to begin with? Probably, one could find it on CNN to begin with...
Dark n Stormy Knight
(9,771 posts)where Hillary is officially declared the winner, I don't care if there are a thousand new OPs about it!
Aside from that, I'm with the OP.

(53,339 posts)This was actually about one-sentence idle thoughts threads. Comments that could be posted in an existing thread.
Maybe I should just give up.

(30,745 posts)We should pin this thread, and keep posting in it until it gets bigger than kudzu. When it stops opening for people, we can start a new thread for random thoughts.

(54,410 posts)I'll be doing an all-night TV program on the election on German TV from about midnight to 7:00 AM (6PM to 1 AM Eastern time).
However, I WILL have a VERY cool video for you all. Look for the announcement from either Skinner or someone else as soon as the election is called. I won't be able to post during that time.
Have fun!

(54,410 posts)German radio had an all-night panel with German reporters in studio, one on the phone from the States, and some "Republican" who was really a rich German who had lived in the USA. He was on the phone from Berlin, and hung up VERY early in the program!
I wanna see stuff like that tomorrow.

As it is, there are are too many OPs that are just idle thoughts with no content.
Good suggestion, hopefully people will use some restraint tonight.
