People really should be pushing for a vote by mail option in their respective states. California

does that. You can set yourself up as a permanent absentee voter, and vote by mail, or you can go to the polls. They give you an option. Voting by mail is a form of early voting

It's fine if it's an option, but we have all vote by mail and I really hate it. LisaM Nov 2016 #1

It hasn't improved turnout, either. We've had historically low turnout in some recent elections (Washington). It would help immensely if they had more drop boxes, but there are hardly any, in Seattle at least.

that every election. If there is a low turnout in Washington, it isn't because of voting by mail

They certainly hasn't happened - I think more drop boxes would make a huge difference, but there's only ten in the whole city, and that's for the Presidential election. Usually there are four and they are pretty inconvenient. Most are not walkable.

It was always an option that people could vote for mail here anyway, so it's not as if they didn't already have the ability (I agree that some places seem very strict in this regard).

I love it. You can vote in your living room and take your time.
