Breaking: #Trump files Nevada voting lawsuit vs. Clark County Registrar, they allege, for keeping polls open “2 hours beyond..closing time" - Jim Sciutto - CNN

Trump files Nevada voting lawsuit

In a sign that the legal team for the Trump campaign is aggressively laying the groundwork for potential legal challenges -- big and small -- lawyers have gone to state court in Nevada in an early vote dispute.

In legal briefs filed last night, Trump lawyers are asking for relief in case “the election of presidential electors from the State of Nevada is contested.”

They are suing Joe P. Gloria, the Clark County registrar of voters, over a decision they allege he made to keep polling locations open “two hours beyond the designated closing time.” The lawsuit targets polling places in the greater Las Vegas area that have larger minority voting precincts.

Dan Kulin, a spokesperson for the county, told CNN that no early voting stations extended their closing times. They did, however, process voters who were in line at closing time to allow as many people to vote as possible.

NRS?293.305??Closing of polls; admission of voters and other persons.

1.??If at the hour of closing the polls there are any registered voters waiting to vote, the doors of the polling place must be closed after all such voters have been admitted to the polling place. Voting must continue until those voters have voted.

2.??The deputy sheriff shall allow other persons to enter the polling place after the doors have been closed for the purpose of observing or any other legitimate purpose if there is room within the polling place and such admittance will not interfere unduly with the voting.

(Added to NRS by 1960, 256; A 1987, 341)

I see some wiggle room for the "letter of the law" versus "the spirit of the law." Beyond that and not being familiar with case law, or in fact, since I am not a lawyer, I'm going to go with sounds like a shit lawsuit to me.

Once a voter is in line, it's perfectly legal for voters to be able to cast their ballots even after the polls officially close.

people that "of course" they want everyone to vote. Which is, I guess, why they didn't want those people to vote. Someone should call them up and tell them all the people waiting in line were Trump voters and they'd be really upset if their votes were tossed.
The lawsuit would go away in about 10 seconds.

she is basically saying there is no need to rule in his favor because all the info they are asking for is already required to be preserved under existing law.

also, the laws for early voting are different, the line stays open as long as people are in it. People can join the line as long as it exists.

She is also telling him she wont publicly release poll worker names. She specifically pointed out privacy interests. the info is available privately.
