Top Michigan Newspaper Turns On Snyder: Slams Governor For Sneaking Through Anti-Union ‘Right-To-Work'

By Josh Israel on Dec 9, 2012 at 10:42 am

The Detroit Free-Press, which endorsed Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder (R) in his 2010 campaign and has generally supported him since, blasted his decision to ram through a union-busting “right-to-work” law in a lame-duck legislative session. At Snyder’s urging, the state House and Senate each passed versions of the law this week. The editorial board slammed his move as a “failure of leadership” and observed that his “about-face” amounted to a betrayal of Michigan’s voters.

The paper noted that while it “trusted Snyder’s judgment,” that trust “has now been betrayed.” It expressed disappointment on behalf of independents who thought Snyder more independent and visionary “than partisan apparatchiks like Wisconsin’s Scott Walker or Florida’s Rick Scott,” adding:

His insistence that the legislation was designed to promote the interests of unionized workers and “bring Michiganders together” was grotesquely disingenuous; even as he spoke, security personnel were locking down the capital in anticipation of protests by angry unionists.

Snyder’s ostensible rationale for embracing right-to-work legislation — it was, he insisted, a matter of preserving workers’ freedom of association — was equally dishonest.
The real motive of Michigan’s right-to-work champions, as former GOP legislator Bill Ballenger ruefully observed, is “pure greed” — the determination to emasculate, once and for all, the Democratic Party’s most reliable source of financial and organizational support.

I have union friends who believed his "tough Nerd", businessman who would work with others, U of M graduate routine and I am going to be different routine. My union did not support him and I ran around to meetings explaining his 10 point plan. He would not debate his challenger Virg Bernaro, Lansing mayor. My friends were mad at Virg for pushing his way into a press conference to deliver a letter to ask him to debate.

Why don't people vote in their best interests? That is the 20 billion dollar question. I am proud to say to friends, "Well, I didn't vote for him." Everyone has to rectify their own conscious. My is clear and clean on my vote.

As Harriy Reid said about agreeing with the GOP to not change the filibuster rules because they wouldn't abuse them, "We tried a handshake. That didn't work."

to add Collective Bargaining to the MI Constitution without talking with Prop 2 supporters. I know many people who no longer receive that paper because of their decisions.

Hindsight is 20/20. If only they did their due diligence.

Are doing this all over. Some worse than others. Everytime Romney was asked about something, he would say that should be up to the states. I believe this is part of their agenda. They've been installing governors all over the country. If Romney won these gov's would have complete control.

10. The people of MI and WI VOTED FOR REPUBLICANS. This is what you get. Elections have consequences !
Tue Dec 11, 2012, 07:16 AM
Dec 2012

UNION people voted for these assholes. Working class and middle class people voted for these ASSHOLES. We just had an election, and at the state level they CONTINUED to VOTE for these ASSHOLES. THIS IS WHAT YOU GET WHEN YOU VOTE FOR ASSHOLES or stay home and WHINE and BITCH because Democrats aren't pure and perfect. However, Dems are still WAY WAY WAY better than these ultra corrupt ASSHOLES.

Now, in Maine we fucked up too in 2010. But when they tried to force in a voter suppression law we killed it bigtime by referendum in 2011. And this year we CRUSHED the GOP and re-took the legislature. THAT is what they need to do in MI and WI.

ELECTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES. Are the people of WI and MI FINALLY LEARNING that??? Oh by the way, in WI they are now attacking same day voter registration and voting just like they did in Maine. Hope the people of WI are happy that they just re-elected RePUKES who still control the legislature, and same in MI. WHEN WILL PEOPLE LEARN????
