(7,515 posts)Some lessons can only be learned the hard way. I suspect we will see the unions disappear from both the private and public sectors. When people become disenchanted with low taxes, low wages and high prices the labor wars of the late 19th and early 20th century will begin all over gain. There is a reason George Santayana is so frequently quoted.

(3,491 posts)the first place? This just seems to have happened in far to many States, where Republicans control Congress.

(34,442 posts)and Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero, who is a great guy, very pro-worker, was viewed as "too liberal" to be elected. It was a shame. I saw the writing on the wall early that Snyder would win and it would be a clusterfuck of epic proportions and sadly I was right about everything. Well, actually I was wrong about one thing. It's not a clusterfuck of epic proportions, it's a clusterfuck of BIBLICAL proportions.

(328 posts)Virge is on the Ed Show from time to time. The last time he was on there, he was just livid.
I don't blame him. I am too. The terrorists... I mean republicraps are trashing this country for money.
Problem is, they are chaning the game by eliminating who can play. Not who plays against them, but who votes for those against them. Like Rachel Maddow said last night... the terrorists... I mean republicraps are changing the process.
Just proves one thing....
An INDIVIDUAL is smart and and be rational, PEOPLE are stoopid and can't be trusted to do what is best for them.

(328 posts)... I have no fucking idea
We vote for democrats for president, but for some stoopid fucking reason, anything within the state is republicrap. The last governor was 2-term democrat, but then they voted in super-majority legislature and governor republicraps.
I work the elections every cycle, and I can't for the life of me understand why some of the people that come through the line who I know will vote republicrap, vote that way.... except for the obvious low-information types.

(3,003 posts)...the result of a large segment of our party base not being motivated to vote in midterms.

(328 posts)Every election is as important as another in today's environment.
Not voting because it's a primary or it's an off-year election is unacceptable.
The media is largely responsible, but can't be blamed entirely.
People need to be made to feel it is important to vote in every election. The republicraps are much more aware of the importance of off-year elections than democrats. The off-year elections are a major reason we have so many republicrap administrations around the country. If as many people voted in the mid-terms that voted in the presidential elections.... boy, the repulicraps would be in a world of hurt.
So, the problem we face is, how do we inspire the left to get out there and vote?

(1,033 posts)He's a solidly liberal U.S. Rep who knows how to appeal to moderates. That was our problem last time. Bernero, though I think he'd be a good governor, had no appeal to any moderates and swing voters.

(328 posts)Gary Peters seems to be a stand-up individual and he's consistant.
Plus, he's in the national media much more... until recently that is.
Why is it that stoopidity gets more notice than sanity?

(36,132 posts)Knowing who'd be a trustworthy governor is no easy thing these days. Michigan doesn't need any more liars or sellouts.

(713 posts)I think she has decided to run (unofficially). She has been a vocal proponent for labor here in Michigan and is term limited at the end of her term in 2014.
