Do the Geopolitical "Preppers" have it right? Should we be stockpiling supplies, food, meds?

I've always chuckled at the "Preppers" who claim to be doing so because of a zombie apocalypse or because of a solar flare that's due any-day-now.

But, now that Trump and his minions are in charge, do we need our bug-out kits? Is there a coming Race War (or equivalent) that we should prepare for?

I'd never taken such things very seriously in the past, but right about now, I can definitely see the appeal of a well-stocked, well-fortified and well-armed underground bunker.

Are you a prepper?

My wife lost her house to Hurricane Andrew when she was a kid. Even now that we live in Michigan we keep a few days worth of supplies on hand for blizzards and such...

... and a portable kerosene space-heater. If we're going to be stuck at home without power, it's almost ALWAYS going to be because of a blizzard.

Growing seasons are all screwed up, and floods drown out fields of crops. Hurricanes, tornadoes and earthquakes (I'm aware earthquake aren't due to climate change) disrupt transportation infrastructure so that we might not be able to support areas immediately (i.e. New Orleans during hurricane Katrina). Not to mention areas being polluted due to broken oil pipelines.

These factors should be taken seriously to the degree that it would be wise to have more than a day or two of food in your pantry. I don't think it's necessary or prudent to prepare for the zombie apocalypse, but to be prepared for two weeks to a month without power and transportation, might not be a bad plan.

Plenty of soup and dry goods, maybe a 55 gallon drum of potable water and a camp stove with a full propane tank might not make your neighbors think you're crazy, but spare yourself (and maybe them) some suffering while things get sorted out after a disruption.

I told my husband that if Trump won I would start prepping for Nuclear War/Climate Change. I'm saving my plastic milk jugs and I already have a first aid kit and a hand crank radio(which my husband received as a gift a few years ago).

If the Cascadia fault goes, we'll be cut off for up to 30 days, but would probably survive the quake. I have water, dried food, a generator etc. Neither the tsunami or quake will actually get us, but we won't be going anywhere for quite a while.

It's not because of some big apocalypse or anything like that I just am always well stocked.
If a blizzard or hurricane hit right now I would be alright.

several miles from any kind of store so I have a stock that would be seen as normal for real rural living, store runs happen very infrequently, having a garden is essential.
