The one thing I wish...

Needless to say I have an abundance of thoughts and feelings about how all this has turned out. But the one thing I wish is that Hillary had responded to all the nonsense about the emails and so forth in the same way that Obama responded to the "Wright controversy"; which is to say, very openly, with a big and very public discussion.

Barack Obama, under scrutiny because of the statements of Reverend Wright ("chickens coming home to roost", if you recall), delivered his "race speech" on March 18, 2008. It was one of the most eloquent and well-thought orations I've ever heard, and it commanded the attention of the nation. It was a response to a petty attack, but it showed him to be a president.

I wish we had seen anything remotely similar from Hillary. I'm intelligent enough to do my own research, and I can say I have zero issues with her handling of the emails as Secretary of State. But, realistically, the other side owned her on the issue and she didn't respond. I know it was something that was complicated, needed some background and explanation, but to the best of my knowledge she never provided that herself.

I recall the debate where she was questioned directly, and she simply said she'd made a mistake - left it at that. It had to be a strategic answer decided beforehand, but there was so much background that could have been explained. In all of the FBI investigations, in spite of Comey's statement, not one single classified e-mail was mishandled. Why couldn't she say that, and why not a broad condemnation of the investigation as the sort of thing women have to undergo just to justify themselves as equals?...

I any case, hindsight is easy, and that's the one thing I wished I had seen.

I think she did so about 20 times or so. I guess it should have been 21 eh?
