2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHillary won the popular. We got more votes for Senate. We are NOT a minority party.
Our current system favors small, conservative states, and that is the main reason we do not have control of the White House or Congress. Voter suppression, gerrymandering, and other tactics may certainly have played a role, but we do not have a voice mostly because lines drawn on a map centuries ago are more powerful than your individual vote.
So, no more shoe-gazing or introspection on how we "failed." We did not fail. The system failed us.
We are NOT a "minority" party. Hillary won the popular vote by a wide margin. More people voted for Democratic senators than Republicans. We are the majority of people in this country, and that makes us the "Majority Party". Say it over and over, it feels good.
Moving forward, yes, we certainly have challenges. But we must never forget that the American people are on our side. We should never apologize or take a back seat to the true minority party. We need to be proud of our majority, be confident, and trumpet it whenever and wherever we can. We are the majority.
So that's my rant. This article from Ezra Klein explains further:

...and here's a graphic I found to remind you of the result... spread it around, use it, make it go viral... or not.
