Green Party presidential nominee Jill Stein is pushing for vote recounts in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania, three traditionally Democratic states where Donald Trump did much better than expected on Nov. 8.
Trump pulled off historic upsets that night in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. Michigan has yet to be called, but he is projected to win there as well.
Steins press director made the announcement in a Facebook livestream on Wednesday afternoon. Her campaign is now accepting donations for the effort and calling on supporters to provide $2 million by Friday afternoon. Its statement references compelling evidence of voting anomalies and significant discrepancies in vote totals in the three states.
The news comes days ahead of the states deadlines to file recount requests. Wisconsins deadline is Friday; Pennsylvanias is Monday and Michigans is Wednesday, Nov. 30.
Steins call follows a Tuesday night report in New York magazine saying a group of election lawyers and computer scientists have contacted Hillary Clintons team to advocate for a recount of the votes in those states.
J. Alex Halderman, a University of Michigan professor in that group, explained his reasoning in a Wednesday post on Medium:

The Green Party nominee says she needs $2 million to fund recount requests in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania.

(4,187 posts)With zero evidence, it's pure slander. Such unsubstantiated allegations will discourage people from donating. I donated and am proud of it. I'm thinking of donating some more.

This is one of the things troubling here. I write a concern that this is a deviation from her past behavior.
If you write something that people don't want to hear, they want to delete or form a posse to delete your posts.
That's fine. You can donate more. But, we would probably not be in this mess, in a few states if she didn't run and tell people misinformation and dissuade them from critically thinking about Trump and Clinton. Even if some of the states did not sway the election, she was a megaphone for reinforcing the , "They are the same evil" message that turned people away from voting.
I seriously doubt my voice has any impact, much like you delete your post comment will.

(4,187 posts)that Jill Stein herself can request a recount. She was a candidate, and candidates are allowed to request a recount if they can pay for it. I was somehow under the impression that Hillary had to request the recount. But Jill Stein can do it, and it is easier for her than it would be for Hillary, who would be attacked in the most hateful way possible if she dared request a recount.

(Emphases mine.)
Apologies to anyone who was already aware of this. I was under the impression that Hillary herself would have to request the recount.
