2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumTrump made this election about "IDENTITY POLITICS" the day he attacked Mexican immigrants.
He introduced racism into the 2016 election. He introduced sexism. He hired alt-right darling Bannon. The list goes on and on.
I am tiring of the revisionist history going on in "2016 Postmortem" regarding how terrible the Democrats were making the election about "identity politics."
That's bullshit. Don't piss on my shoe and tell me it's raining.

(43,890 posts)Yes, Trump started it.
But we didn't have to go down that path to the exclusion of all others.
As a Mexican-American, Trump infuriated me. I wanted to beat him senseless like a piñata.
But that's not enough to win an election.
You can go down the list with every aggrieved demographic.
Those are the issues that divide us from the Republicans.
But that only gets you so-far.
To win, you have to offer something that unites the entire country.
You need to offer a plan. And by offering, I mean talk about it, not just point to a web-page.
There's a whole mess of voters that did not feel included in our message.
They did not feel we were looking after their interests.

And a significant portion of the country does not have the Internet.

(43,890 posts)When Comey decided to come out with the "maybe the investigation ain't over yet" letter, The Hillary campaign switched from their original plan to deliver a positive message to the country to delivering yet another attack on the Trumpenfuhrer.
In retrospect that was a mistake.
She needed to deliver a message of hope to Blue Collar America, but instead she went right back into the mud pit with a man who has spent his entire life fighting in it.

Meanwhile they voted a pos who spent a year and a half portraying the us as worse than mad max.

(47,209 posts)And what that did was put the candidates on an equal footing because Trump had vague and ever changing ideas instead of concrete proposals and HRC had pages and pages of detailed plans. She could not stop the press from staging the shit show they were determined to give us.
But let's not repeat the crap that she didn't have great plans or that she never talked about them. that is utter nonsense. Not helpful.

(14,574 posts)The waters edge is cultural.
People can want to think its about their best interests, but its 100 cultural.
The next time donald trump does something for anyone not named Trump will be the first time.

(14,574 posts)The last 1 1/2 year can be summed up like this - Trump or the rs get up each day and say something horrible about some none white christian group, and Democrats would jump to their defense - Mexicans, muslims, blm, transgenders ...
It is the right thing to defend the rights of ALL americans, but is a loser politically when it becomes the primary discussion point. NOT SAYING IT IS THEIR FAULT.
This is what Bernie is saying.

(Not that I disagree w Symone Sanders' assessment re DNC leadership. I do agree with her)
