If US had adopted Canadian Gun Laws 2 Years Ago, 97 Mass Murder Victions Would Still Be Alive

The table at the bottom of this article shows all mass murders committed in the US in the past 2 years. It lists the personal characteristics of the murderers and most were delusion.

In Canada you have to pass a gun safety course to obtain a gun permit. Probably most people who are delusional can't pass gun safety courses and obtain a signatures from a gun instructor. In Canada, they check families and friends and don't pass guns to people who say the person is delusional or violent. The U.S. is the only country that does that. In Canada, the background check is serious. We need to ask our Justice Department to stop delaying and develop something similar.

Also, Canada has a 26 day mandatory wait period. Many mass murders obtained there guns at the last minute. That couldn't have happened in Canada.

Finally, Canada had no Reagan who threw the mentally ill out on the streets destroying our national mental health system. Some of these people would have been institutionalized before they committed there crimes. Other due to being thrown out of school or fired had no health insurance to seek treatment. Others sought help but weren't institutionalized. The argument that its difficult to predict whose violent may be true but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't provide care for those who are potentially delusional and violent and it doesn't mean that we should sell them guns.

Yes, many of those people needed care, but in many cases, the asylums were abusive and hopeless. We need actual medical care, and respect as human beings for people with mental issues, and what we had before Reagan was still woefully short, and very cruel.

The Republicans fought and under Reagan destroyed it but Carter's bill was good.

The main problem is that we psychiatric judgement as opposed to standardized tests or procedures for making determinations about a person's mental health status. Therefore, the ACLU and others can legitimately argue that people can be easily mistreated by the mental health system. If psychiatrists gave up their power, it would move things forward in many ways.

Also, psychiatrists claim to be the legitimate body to decide how to define clinical diagnoses when they are clearly not. Therefore, they've also politicized the diagnostic process. The most well known examples are voting for then against then for then against labelling homosexuals as deviants and removing and then reinstating narcissism and changing the definition of sociopathy to only physically violent individuals so that it only captures people on the bottom of the SES spectrum and not corporate CEOs.

The shooter got the guns from his Mother. she could have past all the test with flying colors. Her son would still have access to her guns.

And he wasn't on anyone's radar.

and would his mother have passed the gun safety course. Also, she wouldn't have been able to purchase the assault weapons so at this point its still unclear. As the article notes in most cases, just listening to the press gives u the impression the gun laws wouldn't have helped when in fact years later when the records of the trial are released and the gag orders lifted its discovered that it would have helped.

We actually have pretty strict gun laws here in CT.
But I am more interested in limiting the amount of guns people can have in their homes and the amount of ammo. Stockpiling should be outlawed. Locking up weapons and ammo when not in use should be a law. My grandmother left her guns lying around at her house in Lyme, CT and none of us knew it until she died. My kids were around this and we had no idea she left everything out. I have no idea how this can be reinforced but it is crazy they way some people don't believe in gun safety around their own family members. My cousin killed himself with a gun this summer. It just hits close to home.

Common sense Canadian law is you have to tell people why you need the gun and if you claim protection you have to show that police are not able to do the same. None of these guns used could have been purchased by Grandma in Canada.

I had similar experience when cleaning out my father's house. Ten pounds of shotgun shells and loaded weapons laying around for years.

Besides being in law enforcement why does anyone really need that time of weapon?

I like to think my grandmother was just old and forgetful as she died two years ago at 89. She loved my kids but what she had in just dressers in the spare bedrooms in her home was loaded pistols. Scary that my girls could have opened the drawer and took a gun out. They are 7 and 8 now.

In US we accept preppers as not crazy but in most countries they are considered crazy. Mother would not be allowed to go anywhere near guns especially with her and her son's paranoid personality problems.
