Republican congressman says Sandy Hook principal should have had a machine gun

so she could 'take his head off before he killed those precious kids'
By Meghan Keneally
PUBLISHED: 15:01 EST, 16 December 2012 | UPDATED: 15:04 EST, 16 December 2012

A Republican Congressman said that elementary school principals should be armed and have access to assault rifles in order to kill potential shooters.

Representative Louie Gohmert theorized that if the principal at Sandy Hook Elementary School had an M-4 rifle in her office, then she would have been able to shoot Adam Lanza before he proceeded to kill 20 students and six adults at the Newtown, Connecticut school.

'I wish to God she had had an M-4 in her office, locked up so when she heard gunfire, she pulls it out and she didn’t have to lunge heroically with nothing in her hands and takes him out and takes his head off before he can kill those precious kids,' he said ...

By contrast, the Texas congressman feels that any infringement on the Second Amendment, which gives Americans the right to bare arms, would be an overly sentimental response ...

try to stun your opponents into impotent sputtering or gape-jawed incredulous silence, by the sheer asininity of your remarks

If he were serious, he would propose some Sandy Hook Memorial Machine Gun law, establishing a requirement to emplace a large clip high calibre automatic weapon in the main office of every public school that receives federal funding

He doesn't actually propose it, because he would be shunted off to an asylum for electroshock therapy and a free lobotomy if he did

But he does the next best thing, which is to stun you into silence by his incredibly inane remarks

the technique is a variation of the "Gish Gallop", a Creationist debate tactice wherein you spew so many outrageous statements that your opponent cannot possibly debunk them all, let alone make their own points.

you still have to go through security to get into any of the House Office Buildings, and they won't let you bring in your gun

That doesn't upset GOP gun-gangsters like Gohmert

bad enough you have to debate people like this on the internet or at the gym, but this moron is one of the 500 most powerful people in this country.

I fleshed this out with someone on another message board he just did not get it.

The whole theory behind this is that these people choose places that are fire arm free, so therefor, all you need is for someone to have a gun there and it would not happen.

SO, everyone of the 10s of thousands of school buildings in this country would have guns in them, then all preschool and child are facilities, all churches, movie theatres, sports stadiums, stores, restaurants ... Any place that more than one person gathers will have to have a weapon on the premises with people constantly on the clock who have been trained to use them as well as trained in general combat.

He threw a snit, of course, about how I was being ridiculous in simply layout out what he suggested.

Just childish, and no concept of what they are advocating for.

Again, bad enough the average Joe, but sadly, FAR from the only congresstwit who is going to spew this nonsense.

It starts with the idea of a "well armed" militia. We already have a national guard. They have cherry picked only the words they want to hear for their own advantage.

The safety and general welfare trumps any individual or group of individuals right to carry a lethal weapon anywhere they want. These bullies are as paranoid about government and the majority as the shooter was in his own little mind. Other people die because of the damned ignorant excuses. The rest of us refuse to play along.

What have we done with God? We don't want him around. I kind of like his protective hand being present." Gohmert went on to say "It does make me wonder, with all those people in the theater, was there nobody that was carrying a gun that could have stopped this guy more quickly?"

Where does the Texas Republican Party keep finding these morons?

Yes, it is possible to be ready to respond to somebody shooting at you. Soldiers in combat zones do it all the time. It simply requires that you be on alert 24/7 and take your gun everywhere you go, even to the bathroom.

The problem is that being alert 24/7 is a full time job in and of itself. You can't be a soldier in a combat zone and be the principal of a school at the same time. The human brain is just not capable of it.

The idea that someone can be working their day job and suddenly pull out their M-4 and take the head off a shooter whenever they need to is just ridiculous.

If we're going to go, go all the way.

If you go to the Frankfurt airport you will see pairs of Polizei walking around with MP5 submachineguns in their hands, just in case someone tries some terrorism.

If they can do it so can we. Start a federal machine gun corps. Put two-man teams armed with Uzis in public places:

10 teams in a school
15 teams in a big box store
25 teams in a mall
30 teams in a Walmart on Black Friday

Carefully screen so there won't be teabaggers.

Who could possibly object to that?

I was born and raised in Tyler. So naturally I’m proud to see my East Texas city in the news.

But there’s one mention that almost always makes me cringe. It’s whenever I see a news story with the words: “… said U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Tyler.” ...

Gohmert has become a regular on the Fox News Channel, where he can be counted on to say something not just conservative but borderline kooky ...

Just days ago, the U.S. House voted to remove the archaic word “lunatic” from federal laws referring to the mentally ill. The vote was 398-1. And of course you know who that one was ...

You know that big rubber-bottomed floor mat that's right inside the front door? You could dig a big pit and put a Burmese Tiger at the bottom, so when the shooter comes in through the front door, he falls into the hole and is eaten by the tiger.

Might be a problem at recess, so I'll have to get back to you on that one.
