Especially when the opposition party holds at least one house of the legislature. Obama should have started with an even more progressive first offer, and then worked down from there.

He started out asking for twice as much revenue as he had been pushing for in 2011. But I wish he had included raising the cap on payroll taxes as part of his initial push.

Obama has already caved in on several issues said he wouldn't. By the way, look at his track record. He has a history of caving in. Susan Rice is just the latest example!! I don't buy this garbage she made the decision not to pursue this. She was shoved out by the White House!!

Which is why so many were concerned about how far right he started this pissin' match. He didn't leave himself much room on the right to move. Kinda like leaving single payer out of the room before you ever start. The Right gets a huge concession for which they never even had to fight.

The GOP created 'fiscal cliff' was a gift he could leverage to get the Bush tax cuts rescinded (which could later be re-instituted <$250k), cut the budget across the board (which could be readjusted next year), and there would be no need to even mention SS or Medicare at this time.

Not to mention that the readjustments to the budget would be the perfect time to force the GOP to give up on the bogus debt ceiling on a permanent basis.

they are people he went out and begged to give him a chance. The same I see his partner in Chicago becoming mayor. Think about the question he was asked in the Hispanic community, about not pushing immigration. This is a trend. There are a lot of Senators like Bernie sanders, thinks going over the Cliff is actually the best Deal. It is better than anything Boehner and Obama can come up with. This is coming from a person that will actually suffer in the short team and not those two. People do have passion and get angry about some issues which some people don't understand. It goes through and I will work my tail off to defeat those that voted for it. It would be a betrayal to me! And I will continue all year persuading people that agree with me! That is my bottom line.

support drone strikes, insurance mandates instead of health care, cave-ins on tax breaks for the hyper-rich, and now cuts to SS and Medicare?

Then we are a sorry lot that deserve the shit we're forced to eat.

equal pay for women & the Lilly Ledbetter Act, ending the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, getting Osama Bin Laden, increased support for veterans, stem cell research, marriage equality, tax cuts for the middle class, expansion of pell grants, expansion of hate crimes laws to include sexual and gender orientation/identity, expansion of elibility for Medicaid and SCHIP, doubling of federal funding for cancer research, international tax haven watch list, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, reversal of the gag rule against organizations that provide abortions, etc etc. etc.

But what the fuck kind of liberal Democrat cares about that nonsense, right?

I fully expected to have an Obama who would stand up to the Republican's bull, a harder Obama, and not one who would give in time and time again.

Boehner is NOT in charge of this, Boehner is NOT the president, and you, President Obama, are supposed to be fighting for the poor and the middle class, the disadvantaged, the sick and the backbone of this country - the people who actually work for a living. Please don't disappoint your own party....again. And please don't make me pray that Hillary would have won.

I was a Hillary delegate who switched over to Obama when he won the nomination. Please don't make me regret this decision.

Fight for us, please.
