Dan Burton On Tax Cuts: GOP Would Swallow Democratic Tax Plan After December

If a fiscal cliff deal isn't struck by the end of the year, President Barack Obama will be in such a strong bargaining position that Republicans will be forced to accept the expiration of the Bush-era tax cuts for income above $250,000, Rep. Dan Burton (R-Ind.), an arch conservative, predicted Thursday.

In fact, the prospect of broader tax hikes motivated Rep. Jeff Flake, soon to be the junior Republican senator from Arizona, to say that he'd accept the $250,000 limit today.

"That's an easy one for me, because you're lowering taxes that would otherwise be going up," Flake told reporters of the hypothetical $250,000 limit preferred by Democrats.

I actually agree with Dan on this one. The problem is that nobody really wants to go over "the cliff" in the first place due to the potential consequences (which could bring with it another credit downgrade).

...is just fluff by the republicons trying to con the country into believing them.
The dems in both the house and the senate have bills to bring the tax rates back down for those under $250K ready and waiting to be introduced Jan. 2.
The negotiations will be a lot easier with more dems in the congress after Jan. 2 to be able to get the other "Cliff" actions reigned in.
Hope they leave the Defense cuts from the sequester alone tho... in fact, make them bigger.

He will be in a far better position as long has he plays the repubicons deflect and run game until Jan. 2.
Then he gets what he wants... at the $250K mark... no conceding necessary.
He needs to be obstinant and dogmatic for just a few days...
The republicons need to have their game thrown back at them hard and often.
They are the minority party... they need to FEEL IT... and for a long time.
They need to be irrelevant and left out. MAKE them feel the countrys' will.
