2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHere's a way we can fulfill NRA Chairman Wayne LaPierre's call
for immediate placement of armed guards in all public schools. It will take an estimated $5 - $10 Billion to implement the armed guard in every school plan. I propose congress imposes a 15 percent "Keep our Children Safe" sales tax on all ammunition and gun purchases to pay for it. The "Keep our Children Safe" money generated would benefit public schools only. Charter schools will have to fund "Keep our Children Safe" on their own. And following the logic of Mr. Mike Huckabee, religious schools wouldn't need armed guards since they allow God and prayer--they'll be completely safe from any attacks.

And I agree about the Charter Schools. But, if they don't start taking some definite actions...not hand-wringing and delaying until other vague and intangible elements come magically into place...parents who can, will take their kids out and home school and get a charter. This causes decline of not only the money available to the public school classroom, but is often a drain of those of higher incomes who have or know a stay at home parent, etc., that have those choices.
Don't know about religious schools, but my experience would suggest that they will find a way. Local, individual programs are much easier to tailor to the specific circumstances than broad-based national remedies.
