Related: About this forumHow did Mitt Romney decide when to concede defeat? By watching Fox. And listening to Karl Rove.
by Jed Lewison for Daily Kos
Painfully hilarious:
Arriving at his suite in the Westin Boston Waterfront hotel, Romney received regular updates from his staff. He made small talk about the Patriots and the Celtics and played with his grandchildren. He was about to concede around 11:15 p.m when Republican strategist Karl Rove made his now-infamous appearance on Fox News Channel, insisting that his own network was wrong in calling Ohio for the president.
The concession call was canceled, followed by an hour of uncertainty. Then, after Fox executives dismissed Roves concerns and stood by the networks projection, Romney said: Call the president.

So, if you were wondering whether Mitt Romney actually believed all the right-wing nonsense that he spewed throughout the campaign, I guess this is a pretty big clue to the answer: yes, he did. He really was that far inside the bubble.

and so disconnected from reality.

(59,504 posts)2. A kinder assumption is that Rove's nonsense let him hope a little longer
I suspect that in the hour he delayed, he also saw as more and more states were declared for Obama that it was not JUST Ohio that he needed.
I would remind people here, that John Kerry conceded the next morning only after learning the Ohio numbers could not lead to him winning. (One difference was where Romney thought there had been enough voter suppression for him to win, Kerry would have won the state without the voter suppression that Democrats worked hard to eliminate in 2008 and 2012.)
It has to be tough to concede - the point where you suddenly are no longer one of two people who will be President in the following January.
