Joe Walsh: Tammy Duckworth A 'Wounded Veteran -- What Else Has She Done?'

U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh was criticized by veterans groups this week after making a dismissive remark about his opponent -- Iraq war veteran Tammy Duckworth -- in a Politico interview.

The Tea Party favorite faces Duckworth, a Democrat, in one of the most closely-watched congressional races of 2012. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee says it plans to win back Illinois' 8th District, and redistricting has put Walsh in a much more vulnerable position.

Even before Duckworth won the March 20 Illinois primary, a poll showed both her and her former Democratic opponent polling ahead of Walsh in the new 8th District.

“Tammy is a heroic veteran; Walsh a Tea Party icon who’s so extreme he’s doubling down on his extremism,” DCCC chairman Steve Israel told The Huffington Post last week, adding that Walsh is "badly out of touch" with voters.

2. Similar MO used against Max Cleland by Saxby Chambliss

During the Vietnam War, Chambliss received student deferments and was also given a medical deferment (1-Y) for bad knees due to a football injury.[4]

Chambliss ran for the Senate in 2002, facing freshman Democratic incumbent Max Cleland. Chambliss's political career would have likely ended if he hadn't run for the Senate; the state legislature had shifted his home in Moultrie (along with most of the southern portion of his district) to the nearby 1st district, represented by fellow Republican Jack Kingston.

Chambliss focused on the issue of national defense and homeland security during his campaign, and released an ad that included Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein, highlighting Cleland's record on the issues of war and terrorism.[9]

Chambliss received criticism from Democrats and Republicans for this ad, pointing out that he, who hadn't served in the Vietnam War due to receiving military deferments, had attacked a Vietnam War veteran who lost three limbs during his service for not being tough enough on issues of war and homeland security. Republican Senator John McCain of Arizona said of one ad, "t's worse than disgraceful, it's reprehensible;" Senator Chuck Hagel of Nebraska said the ads were "beyond offensive to me."[10]

Chambliss "won" a "surprise upset victory, " where most polls and exit polls said Cleland would win re-election.
2002 was the first election where the unverifiable Republican-manufactured electronic vote-counting machines
were used. Since their use, EVERY "surprise upset" victory has been won by a Republican, from Georgia Senate
in 2002 to Ohio presidential in 2004.

Remember the Virginia Senate race in 2006, when Senator Macaca lost Jim Webb? The reported results were far
closer than expected, so the State of Virginia was going to do a recount. Suddenly Senator Macaca conceded,
forgoing the recount, when he wouldn't even have been required to pay for it. Why? He had made SUCH a big
effort to retain his seat when the polls said it didn't look good? I can think of one good reason: the voting machines
that were used in Virginia would have been shown, upon examination, to have been manipulated in his favor, and
then they would have been examined nationwide, and thus discredited permanently. They figured far better to
lose the Virginia Senate seat and keep their voting machines in use. The normally loudmouthed George Macaca
uttered not a peep, but conceded and quietly slunk away. They only brought him out of the mothballs again for
the race this year, in the age of Citizens United and only two years after the Year of the Teabagger.

Remember the purple bandaids circulating at the GOP convention in 2004, attacking Kerry's Purple Hearts?

And Ann Coulter went so far as saying Max Cleland lied about his injuries, saying he was injured driving a jeep drunk.

The disabled are a drag on the profit and loss statement. The GOPer love to toss flowers on the graves of soldiers, not living and talking and possibly rebellious veterans.

...and Walsh has been nowhere to be seen. He has little organization and going against a very motivated and organized Duckworth organization. This deadbeat who couldn't win in the district where he lives will get his ass handed to him and I'll be proud to be a part of it!
