Richard Carmona considering run for AZ governor in 2014

Former U.S. Surgeon Richard Carmona is considering a 2014 gubernatorial run.

Supporters from Arizona and across the nation are urging the Democrat, who lost by 3 percentage points to Jeff Flake in last year’s bitter U.S. Senate race, to run, a Carmona spokesman confirmed to The Arizona Republic.

“He’s looking at all his options,” said the spokesman, Andy Barr. “I think if he were to run, the infrastructure would be in place, support would be in place, money would be in place for him. He’s gotten a lot of calls from folks encouraging him to run.”

Barr said he has met with Alexis Tameron, Carmona’s campaign manager, and others, to discuss a potential run.

“If he were to, the decision is going to be up to him and it’s not going to come any time soon,” Barr said.
