that they cannot hold Hagel to a standard far above and beyond what's ever been done before in that committee--the Republicans look like total obstructionist jackasses now. Of course, they have another weekend to fish around for "bootleg" speech footage, and go through Hagel's trash (hope he has a shredder), and try to dig up more staffers who say that Hagel ate their yogurt out of the office fridge...

I did not know that! That's almost as bad as being a friend of Hamas or a paid Iranian plant (I saw it Twitter, so it must be true).

Iranian agent, that sort of thing. Lindsey Graham sez:

Asked why this information was being asked of Hagel and not prior nominees, Graham said: “I don’t think we’ve had previous nominees with this sort of, kind of, hostile attitude toward a friend like Israel.

“I think what we’re all looking for is, did Sen. Hagel get on the speaking circuit to [speak to] anti-Israeli groups?” Graham said. “What kind of things did he say about Israel and other potential allies?”

I think this whole financial-document thing is just a stall--they've got Hagel's speaking engagement list, they're looking for footage and memberships of those organizations.
