The four most interesting revelations from the hacked Bush emails

FRIDAY, FEB 8, 2013 11:20 AM -0400

George W. Bush likes to paint himself naked, and Jeb seems a little jealous of Bill Clinton

BY ALEX SEITZ-WALD

-snip-

– Fox News’ Brit Hume was disappointed by the 2012 election results: In a Nov. 9 email to Willard Heminway, a close friend of the elder bush, the Fox News analyst wrote: “Election outcome disappointing, but there are many silver linings.”

– The Bush kids have a strange relationship with Bill Clinton: George W. Bush apparently calls him “bubba” or “brother,” given the closeness between his father and the Democratic former president. As his father lay in the hospital in late December, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush praised his father and “how kind he was with President Clinton.” “He helped restore his sordid reputation. A very tough thing to do but with kindness, dad probably helped Bill Clinton than anything he himself has done,” he said of his father and Clinton.

– They worried about Clinton giving the eulogy: Afraid that George H.W. Bush had just days or hours to live, George W. Bush wrote to his siblings soliciting ideas and stories just in case a eulogy would soon be needed. “Hopefully I’m jumping the gun … But since the feeling is that you all would rather me speak than bubba, please help.” There’s also a photo of Clinton visiting the Bushes at their Kennebunkport, Maine, compound.

– George W. Bush likes to paint himself naked: It’s been widely reported that Bush took up painting as a hobby after leaving the White House, and the hacked emails include two paintings he sent his sister of himself in a bathub and in the shower. Another photo shows Bush posing with a comical cardboard cutout of a French-looking painter with his face on it.

The question is, why do this, and why send it to your sister? Them Bushies are a strange bunch.

who did this in 2 or more paintings, but I can't come up with any. I'm sure there are a few, but I doubt this sort of self-portrait is common. To me, it's doubly disturbing because of the self-nudity (I'm no prude, but exactly what does this say about the painter?) and second, because, as seems to be usual, Bush is totally focused on himself. So narcissistic! Usually, beginner painters paint stuff like flowers, their kids, their pets, landscapes, etc. The mentality behind these paintings is truly disturbing.

Now, I have no idea how many paintings Bush has done, and it could very well be that he has done hundreds of paintings of conventional subjects and we just don't know about them. But the naked ones were the ones he was proud enough of to send to his sister.

I keep getting really creepy vibes.

Is that a reflection of his face in the shower one? Or some one else's face, who is in the shower with him? What a strange perspective! I thought that I heard that he'd been painting dogs?

What really stands out for me is how skewed his perspective is, and how he minimizes the size of his own face and body parts. The treatment of his own image is flat, almost transparent. There is no light reflected in the eyes.

These paintings demonstrate characteristics of someone with a borderline personality disorder, as well as no artistic talent.
