their current assignment. Johnson Reed, Nelson, Cardin, and Casey are 21st, 22nd, 29th, 46th, and 49th respectively in seniority. I would think some of those with higher seniority would be offered the positions out of respect before the ones you listed.

Johnson-SD the current chair of the Banking could retire from the US Senate or lose re-election to Rounds-R.
Reed-RI is next in line to chair Banking if Johnson-SD were to leave the US Senate.
Reed-RI also can take the Armed Services if Levin-MI were to leave the US Senate.
Johnson-SD is more likely to be forced out of the US Senate than Levin-MI, Reed-RI takes Banking.
Nelson-FL is next in line to chair Commerce after Boxer-CA who currently chair Environment Public Works. If Boxer takes Commerce instead of EPW. The next in line to chair EPW is Baucus-MT-Finance,Carper-DE-Homeland Security,or Cardin-MD.
Baucus-MT is highly unlikely to give up his position on Finance.
If Carper-DE gives up Homeland Security for Environment, then Pryor-AR takes Homeland Security.
Cardin-MD is next in line for Foriegn Relations after Boxer-CA and Menendez-NJ.

Assume both Levin-MI and Johnson-SD were to retire from the US Senate next year.

Reed-RI takes Armed Services.
Schumer-NY takes Banking.
Feinstein-CA take Rules.
Udall-CO takes Intelligence.
or
Reed-RI takes Banking.
Nelson-FL takes Armed Services.
Casey-PA takes Aging.
Cantwell-WA takes Commerce.
Tester-MT takes Indian Affairs.
