Newt Gingrich: 'CNN is less biased than Fox News'

In what some might consider an act of GOP political suicide, Newt Gingrich slammed Fox News earlier this week, saying that the cable news channel has favored Mitt Romney throughout the 2012 Republican race--and that CNN has been the more "fair-and-balanced" network this cycle.

"I think Fox has been for Romney all the way through," Gingrich said during a meeting with Tea Party leaders in Delaware on Wednesday, according RealClearPolitics.com, which said it was granted access to the private event. "In our experience, Callista and I both believe CNN is less biased than Fox this year. We are more likely to get neutral coverage out of CNN than we are of Fox, and we're more likely to get distortion out of Fox. That's just a fact."

The former House Speaker blasted the Roger Ailes-led network, blaming Rupert Murdoch, chairman and CEO of Fox News owner News Corp., for the bias.

"I assume it's because Murdoch at some point [who] said, 'I want Romney,' and so 'fair and balanced' became 'Romney,' " Gingrich said. "And there's no question that Fox had a lot to do with stopping my campaign because such a high percentage of our base watches Fox."

He decides FOX "News" is biased (all of a sudden) because Murdoch decided to support Rmoney. Newt thinks that even though he would make a much better President, many Republicans are stupid enough to be fooled by Murdoch. Good going there Newt! We'll see how that works out for you.

I should say I never watch Fox "news" and have only rarely watched C"N"N in the past ten years. But it seems to me that CNN is so afraid and intimidated by insane right wingers that they defer to them at every opportunity.

Everything CNN says or does is ridiculed or criticized by wing nuts. So what do they do? They try even harder to please those who ridicule them with the result that they wind up being extremely one sided in their coverage.

In a way this is true of all of the liberal media, but IMO CNN is by far the worst. Sometimes it seems to me that they are physically afraid of the lunatic fringe, like some loonies will come into the studio and kick their asses unless they praise them and treat them as a legitimate political entity.

Fox is a joke, it isn't a purveyor of "news". But CNN still likes to pretend they are legit.

Faux has seen its ratings tumble in recent years. It surely didn't come from people on our side of the sandbox...so it had to be coming from somewhere. Those viewers also weren't going to Chicken Noodle Nuze (that is soon going to rival Home Shopping in relevancy) and MSNBC numbers only went up slightly.

Murdoch and Rove's monster has come back to kill the messenger. They created the great unhinged and now they're struggling to control it. They helped manufacture and nurture the teabaggers who have refused to fall in line and now are accelerating this inept and corrupt party's political implosion. Live on TV!

The fun here...and each of us can play a part by helping Democrats retake the House, hold onto the Senate and re-elect President Obama...then sit back and watch canibalism that would make Hannibal Lector blush...

I'm trying to remember how badly we do this infighting ourselves. I mean, I remember Hillary and Barack going at it pretty good but I'm hoping to get some historical perspective from someone on DU

Also- I've heard about nothing but Republican primaries on NPR for a long time now. One question I keep asking myself, without remembering, is what was the coverage like when we were against Bush's second term?? I'm trying to decide if they are moving towards the right since their funding was threatened. -or if its just cyclical.

One, because I was there, but it's still just my opinion.

It was baaad here between Obama and Hillary -- There were nasty

remarks about "Hilbots" and "Obamabots"....I remember people taking a "leave of absence"

from DU, and being told by the fiercer among us

to "Come back when the primaries are over".

Having SAID that, there is one crucial difference -- Both of OUR primary candidates

were GOOD, I won't say "great", because, in point of fact, I thought they were both

a bit too corporate....That being said, we had no "morans" like Santorum, for fuck's sake.

I would not have wept or shouted "unfair" had Hillary won.

thank you for taking the time to inform me.
It is interesting for me to hear this, I haven't been on here long and I'm trying to get a handle on how you guys play.

I muchly agree with your points, them being both strong, and both too corporate. (actually, I know far less about Hillary)

I'm also curious if anyone on here is down with Ron Paul? Obviously he doesn't have a chance in hell, but he would have had my vote (omg, not as Romney's VP) strictly for his strong stance on civil rights. I always found it interesting how both sides ignored him, just because he's a bit nutty. I mean they (we) all are.

You wanted to vote for Ron Paul because of his "strong stand on civil rights"?.

Neither he nor his son, Rand, believe the "Civil Rights Act" should have come

to fruition!....As far as they're concerned, Blacks could still be sitting at separate lunch counters.

Paul is good on foreign issues (anti-war) but he SUCKS on domestic ones...Paul believes the

constitution is essentially the equivalent of "God's word".

He's anti-choice and thinks Social Security and Medicare, among other things, should be

abolished...I'd rather vote for Romney instead of him...He is more than a "bit" nutty.

Were it up to him, government money would go to NOTHING were it not spelled out

in the Constitution, a document written two and a half centuries ago.

Hillary didn't waste time feeling sorry for herself in public and looking for someone else to blame for her primary loss. Newt, while he may be telling the truth for once in his vile life, is being driven by his huge ego.

He needs to show the GOP what's up.

Newt Gingrich, the only way to show the establishment who's boss is to run as an independent candidate. You don't need the Republican banner, they've left you behind.

We need a TRUE conservative to enter the fray. For the love of America, for the love of the planet. Do it, Mr. Gingrich.

The one good thing about the Republican primary is supporters of candidates other than Romney got to see how ridiculously biased and unfair FOX News is. The Freepers have felt betrayed by both FOX and DRUDGE through this whole process. Furthermore, they got to see no only slanted coverage, but the out and out lies that FOX uses to push their agenda.

For a while now CNN has been trying to market itself as the moderate alternative to Fox and MSNBC. So Newt is trying to play that up, possibly in the hopes that he can get a show or at least become a regular contributor/guest.

The rest of it is his standard 'why don't you love me?' stuff.
