2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumRomney's a little more "visible" than I'd expect, considering a CPAC appearance, Fox interview etc.
Is he actually going to try and run again in 2016? I wouldn't have believed it before, but maybe he's just deluded enough to think people actually want him to be President.

(3,888 posts)one of which is that people will forget that he is a bald faced liar. I think he damaged both "Brand Romney" and the Mormon Church by publicly demonstrating his avaricious, uncaring, out-of-touch, and elitist nature.
And Ann didn't do much to help the PR team either.
He may run again but his chances of winning will be slimmer next time than they were this last time (and his chances last time were a lie as I recall). We know lots more about him now.

Also, 4 years is a long time for RMoney and the Queen to have some wonderful soundbites recorded. Sure Mittens is probably more guarded about when and where and who he speaks to, but like you said, he's not going to change his "narcissistic" ways anytime soon (to much inbreeding? Ah, I kid RMoney) NOT! Peace and love.

(3,888 posts)to forget the revelations I had.
Well, not exactly revelations, more like confirmations, about the rich and the religious.
I had just never consciously applied them to Mormons before.
Mitt and Ann are something aren't they? A lot like Tom and Daisy Buchanan.

(2,514 posts)he simply bought the Republican nomination.. and yes he may be deluded enough to believe that... after all apparently both He, and Ryan both believed they had won.....

(14,177 posts)Romney won't fair any better in 2016 than he did in 2012. He was also really good at providing moments of hilarity. I loved his European vacation. His trip to the hardware store to get you know hardware stuff and Pepsi. His doubling down on the 47% remarks were priceless. His choice of Ebenezer Scrooge preform for a running mate. Not to mention his hideously mean wife. His sense of entitlement that he isn't even aware of that is so obvious to the non entitled is amazing. His Gish Gallop was the most athletic debate performance I have ever seen. It was like he was trying to get the gold in rapid fire lying.
If he isn't going to run in 2016, I just want him to go away then. Because right now he bores me. I will expect him to do something entertaining if I am to suffer his existence.

(94,538 posts)He was politically and perhaps financially embarrassed by his Election loss, and the stories that came out about how incompetently he ran his campaign. He wants to use his public appearances to try to rebuild his reputation and find someone else to blame.

(13,069 posts)I was forced to listen to him during the election--and that was more than enough. I cringed when I heard his voice from my TV--I spent good time and money campaigning in part so I did not have to listen to his lies and distortions again.
GO AWAY Romney--and take your whiny wife with you.

(2,117 posts)make Obama look bad, convince America they made the wrong choice, run again in 2016 and win. He honestly doesn't care if the country fails as long as he can paint the President as a failure to think he's gaining credibility for himself.

(10,857 posts)What Romney wants is political power. Romney is a sociopath which means that he is quick to forgive himself and move on (in addition to being ruthless, un-empathetic, greedy, dishonest, and quite likely murderous).
Certainly he has noticed that while only two Presidential candidates and one shadow-President have reached the White House in the past eight years, there have been maybe half a dozen or more Presidential candidates who found themselves in important cabinet positions within those two administrations.
Additionally, not being bound by ethics, morality or conscience makes running for Vice President a perfectly viable option as well for Romney. Once he's a heartbeat away, all he has to worry about is stopping a single heart, and then he gets what he wants.
Edit: I should also add that sometimes there is a financial advantage to running again, because I believe it allows for the current campaign to pay off the prior campaign's debts. That was why Patrick Buchanan was running a nowhere campaign in 2000, to delay the deadline for paying off his previous campaign debts. And look where that got us.

(31,706 posts)...there's always a bit of a fascination with a 7 day wonder on the 8th day. In the bigger scheme of Presidential losers, Rmoney's loss was as complete of one as the rushpublicans have had since LBJ spanked Goldwater nearly a half century ago. He ran an inept and poor campaign and only became the nominee cause he was the lesser of a lot of bad candidates. Many still feel the election was his to lose...and that's what he did.
All this talk appears to be a still smartin' Willard and Queen Ann who never left their bubble during the campaign and surely haven't since. In his attempt to pretend that he wasn't as big a loser as he really was he's opened his money pit and reminded millions of us why he was so thoroughly rejected.
That should mean little in the rushpublican bubble, but Willard wasn't that popular to begin with and surely isn't with that big "L" next to his name. He'll face a far different field in '16 than he did in the past two elections...folks like Christie and Jebbie who will grab all the "moderate" money and attention. Willard's time came and went...he failed. The world has moved on...he and his queen haven't...and never will...
