Are Paul Ryan's 15 minutes over?

A new poll shows that even Republicans are having second thoughts about their former VP nominee

By Jon Terbush | 4:53pm EST

Last year, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) was hailed as the man with a plan to save America. Today, barely half of his own party thinks highly of him.

According to a Rasmussen poll released Monday, Ryan's approval rating has plummeted since the November election. In the poll, only 35 percent of likely voters said they had a favorable view of him, while a 54 percent majority said they viewed him unfavorably. That's a stunning reversal from last August, when 50 percent of voters liked Ryan, versus 32 percent who did not.

While the poll found that Republicans still generally supported their party's budget guru, even they've rapidly soured on him in the past few months. A slim 52 percent of Republicans now view him favorably, a far cry from the 83 percent who said the same back in August.

So what happened to Ryan's once-shining star?

For one, the Romney-Ryan ticket suffered a convincing November defeat, prompting the party to conduct a deep soul-searching mission and to propose a major rebranding effort. Yet as the party prepares to move forward, Ryan has held back.

figuratively speaking. He is going to lose more and more favor the more people learn about him and the more they see how toxic he is. I don't think the average person that votes Republican has a suicide wish for their party, so when they see him sinking in the polls of everyone else they will drop him.

He was supposed to be one of the rising stars among the younger Republicans. Rubio is being pushed as some sort of solution to their "minority problem", but I don't see him going over well, either.

he just keeps doubling down with that ridiculous budget plan of his. He (and most Rethugs, truth be told) are incapable of recognizing that America just doesn't buy their message. They're safe in their gerrymandered districts, and cannot see beyond that.

11. Obviously, they don't care about the voters and what they said.

Obviously, they only care about their own bottom line and their ultra-rich contributors.

Then their loser do-nothing offspring will take the perch.

We're stuck with a half-ass, lazy obstructing Gov. with billions/trillions of our taxpayer revenue bled-off to private profit pockets forever.
