Mississippi State Rep. Jessica Upshaw found dead at former legislator's home

Miss. Rep. Jessica Upshaw found dead at former legislator's home

Mississippi Bureau of Investigation officials are looking into the death of State Rep. Jessica Upshaw, who was found at a residence in Simpson County on Sunday.

The 53-year-old Republican lawmaker died of a gunshot wound to the head, state Capitol sources said.

Simpson County Sheriff Kenneth Lewis confirmed that Upshaw was found at the home of former state Rep. Clint Rotenberry, 901 Mangum Drive in Mendenhall.

“We can’t really call what happened yet. I don’t know if it’s a suicide or what,” Lewis said.

Apparently Rottenberry's wife was living somewhere else, so they could have been dating.

10. I don't have stats, but IIRC women don't usually choose this way of suicide. Just sayin'

Whatever happened, it's a shame as she had many more years and a family to live for. She could have simply gone to discuss a bill coming up in the legislature. No matter how it went down, it's terrible for her family and a waste.

Though the police have a suspect in custody and say they don't think politics was a factor.

I see the Red Arrow Brigade is out in full force again. These RA'er's are obama nutz and always the first jump in & start red-arrowing anytime it comes to republicans / consitutional rights of americans or anything that is negative of Obama.

Dear Mr. Fitnah of Florida: Why do you find it so hard to believe the government is so good? Obama was voted in twice wasn't he? Suspect that says something about what the people in the USA really think of the Democrats whether you like it or not.

This wouldn't be a story if she was a Democrat.- rb , tampa USA/////Are you kidding? The media would make it a huge story and try to pin it on Palin or Limbaugh.

While we may complain about DUers saying nasty things/grave dancing etc., it pales in comparison to some of the stuff out there. It makes me sad for our society.

If she did kill herself, why? Colleagues are saying that she was thrilled to be a grandmother and wanted to see her grandson as often as possible (her daughter and son in law were engineers living in So. Korea). Also, why do it at someone else's house? Was it a romance gone wrong?

My condolences to her daughter.

Rest in peace.

12. It doesn't sound like suicide, does it? Maybe an accident?

The article does say that a couple of the people who have died in the past year are democrats. So this isn't necessarily a tea party massacre.

This is a human tragedy story, I don't think that her politics had anything to do with it. I'm sure that investigators are dotting the i's and crossing all the t's before they declare whether it was a suicide or a murder.

Why was she in someone elses home? very strange place and way to suicide, was she an experienced gun owner?

Another person with the best insurance, was she on those common drugs with 'thoughts of suicide' as a side effect?

Seems like everyone with the top-tier insurance is on plenty of the common daily rx drugs insurance pays for.

On can hope the local police in Miss. are able to carry out a through investigation. Perhaps they should bring in the Feds before local police mess up.
