Senators To NRA: Stop Berating Newtown Victims’ Families

Senators To NRA: Stop Berating Newtown Victims’ Families

Connecticut’s two senators wrote a letter on Monday to the National Rifle Association demanding that the group “immediately stop” robo-calling families and friends of the Newtown, Conn., elementary school shooting victims to promote its agenda.

“In a community that’s still very much in crisis, to be making these calls opens a wound that these families are still trying hard to heal,” wrote Sens. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Chris Murphy (D-CT) to NRA chief Wayne LaPierre. “Put yourself in the shoes of a victim’s family member who gets a call at dinnertime asking them to support more assault weapons in our schools and on our streets.”

The senators said their constituents were upset about getting automated calls from the NRA supporting the right to carry assault weapons and urging opposition to gun control measures.

Excoriating the NRA’s actions as “inappropriate,” “incredibly insensitive,” and “absolutely beyond the pale,” Blumenthal and Murphy called it “just another example in a long line of offensive steps your organization has taken in the wake of this tragic shooting.”

"I think it's disgusting and I think it's intentional," United States Sen. Chris Murphy said. "I don't think it's a mistake that the NRA is making calls into Newtown."

The push from the NRA is timed just as local lawmakers are crafting numerous gun reform laws that could make our state one of the toughest on weapons. Lawmakers are now seeing these calls as another element to fight in this battle.

"We will be matching their effort here in Connecticut and with allies throughout the country," said United States Sen. Richard Blumenthal.

I THROW OUT all your propaganda which comes to my NRA husband. Do not assume that all members of a "gun household' agree with your despicable agenda.

Hubby is a lifetime NRA member, but has no use for NRA gun stances or politics. He votes Democratic and is only interested in the NRA gun magazine. I have basically canned all NRA emails that come to his email address and have no interest in any of their programs or benefits. I think what the NRA is doing with robocalls to the victims families is beyond despicable and indicative of how morally bankrupt the NRA leadership is.

Robo-call Cowards. They don't have the guts to call themselves - probably wise considering what they would hear.
