Not so fast, little rich girl

Gabrielle Nestande's plans to go home to California and dance away her 10-year probation for killing Courtney Griffin took a U-turn in Austin, TX, yesterday. Right now she is cooling her heels in the Travis County Jail for the next six months, and will live in Austin under the microscope of an incensed judge and community. The grinning Nestande avoided justice thanks to a jury that fled the courtroom covering their faces, but Judge Karen Sage used every last inch of punishment the law allows. The terms of Nestande's probation are listed a few paragraphs down in the story link. They are a minefield. Under the circumstances, they also appear to preclude much protection from her extreme right-wing family, Gov. Perry, or her former boss, Texas Rep. Wayne Christian, the weirdo from Big Foot country. Courtney Griffin's family is also planning major lawsuits. They are inconsolable, but they are not screwing around.

Don't mess with Austin.

....I'll present, without comment, this link to a 2007 story on Gabrielle Nestande's father.

Former Orange County Supervisor and Assemblyman Bruce Nestande was sentenced Tuesday to six months in jail and three years' probation in connection with a drunk-driving accident last year.

Nestande, 69, had pleaded guilty to misdemeanor driving under the influence and hit-and-run, as well as filing a fraudulent insurance claim, a felony.
