Do you think if Mississippi had a Republican with strong name recognition running against a no-name Democrat that the Democrat would be trailing this closely?

C'mon Massachusetts...what the heck??

16. Markey has no strong name recognition?

I grew up in Florida and I've known the name "Edward Markey" since the 1980's. You mean to tell me that people in the same state where Markey has been a congressman for 25+ years don't know his name? C'mon, now.

15. Massachusetts has a history of Republicans winning state wide elections

for example, they have had an uninterrupted string of Republican governors from 1991 through 2007.

Markey should win this but he has to actually fight and have a well thought out campaign. He will have problems if he takes anything for granted.

We've already got a tough battle to keep control of the Senate in 2014. We cannot afford to lose seats from blue states.

These polls are concerning, but not very. Gomez will have big problems because of his past, and Markey's a solid Liberal if not a fresh face.
