Updated: Pickering!! "Things go Badly for Darrell Issa When David Gregory Fails to Be a GOP Shill"

Last edited Sun May 12, 2013, 11:16 PM - Edit history (1)

Darrell Issa (R-CA) made a fool of himself on “Meet the Press” Sunday as he tried to defend his Benghazi conspiracy. David Gregory (R-TV) pushed back hard, even bringing up the GOP’s defunding of security.

Issa even accused General David Petraeus of lying for the administration. As soon as Gregory would call Issa on one thing, he’d say he was investigating something else. Issa accused Tom Pickering of refusing to testify when in fact, Issa had not invited him to speak and Pickering was told that the Republican majority did not want him there. Issa ended up backtracking on that one, too, and it was super awkward when it came out that Issa never asked for him to appear.

Turns out, Issa was just making inaccurate, unfounded accusations so as to falsely infuse his Benghazi hearings with the aura of nefarious dark secrets, because that is what Issa does for a living
.
Here’s the edited-for-brevity transcript from NBC. I’ve bolded the highlights (commentary in italics). It’s long, but it’s really a must-read if you want to see just how empty the Republican conspiracy is, and just how vulnerable Republicans are making their party with this line of attack:

Thought this should be out there since there seems to be so much Impeachment fearmongering and "Benghazi's the ONE!!11".

Ambassador Pickering: I Was Willing To Testify On Benghazi

U.S. Ambassador Thomas Pickering said Wednesday he offered to testify at today's House Oversight Committee hearing on the deadly Benghazi, Libya attacks that occurred last year, contrary to what Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) claimed.

"Yes, I'm willing to testify," Pickering told MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell on Wednesday. "I made that clear yesterday. The White House I understand made that clear to Mr. Issa. He declined. I don't know the reasons for that, made some statement about perhaps sometime later we could come, but I was very interested in being there, because i thought the testimony this morning might be important with respect to the accountability review board and its work."

Pickering co-chaired an independent accountability review board on behalf of the State Department in the aftermath of the Benghazi attacks. A spokesman for Issa disputed his account, saying that committee rules prevented late additions to the witness list.

At link.. Issa spokesman, Fred Hill, more or less called Adm Pickering a liar.http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entry/ambassador-pickering-i-was-willing-to-testify-on

Mostly Gregory allowing Issa to continually interrupt Pickering, which really threw the old guy off, and was obviously irritating him.

IT doesn't surprise me that the ex car-thief Darryl Issa was pushing for the attack on Hillary's 2016 run, or another Impeachment ruse. It's either those 2 things, or maybe just an attempt to appear to be doing SOMETHING, by a Congress that is completely worthless.

But yea, for the most party Gregory is a shill for the GOP, and just because he makes ONE little push-back on the right-wing moronic spinners once and a while, on something so totally obvious that no one is being fooled anyway, doesn't "redeem" him.

GREGORY:

But look– but look at these attacks on U.S. interest spanning Republican and Democratic administrations including President Bush’s administration. Why is there not more of an effort to beef up security after these attacks happen and even, you– you know, even before this happened in Benghazi? (Oh, God, do not go to the Republican defunding of security, David, or else all is lost for Issa….)

REP. ISSA:

David…

GREGORY:

And isn’t this Congress’s job to spend the money to beef up security?
(BOOM goes the dynamite.)

REP. ISSA:

David, I– well, first of all, money is spent by the– the secretary of state and her people. We appropriate the money. (Apparently Issa, who listed other areas of great security concern, does not understand the word appropriations – as in, you have X amount, and you must make it work all over the world. Good luck. Oh, and by the way, we’re decreasing your funding and then we’re going to blame you for not being able to see into the future.)

REP. ISSA: You know, let’s not blow things out of proportion. (It’s a little late for this warning, Issa.) This is a failure, it needs to be investigated. Our committee can investigate. Now, Ambassador Pickering, his people and he refused to come before our committee that… (Issa is accusing Tom Pickering of refusing to appear when he was not invited. Nice one, Issa.)

AMB. THOMAS PICKERING (Former Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs/Chair, Accountability Review Board on Benghazi): That is not true.

Issa should follow his own advice! " You know, let’s not blow things out of proportion." Correct Darrell. Maybe you should stop blowing Benghazi out of proportion! You talk about lies and deceipt that lasting for almost a month? Really? Where were you when Bushco lied and deceived our country for 8 years! Where was the outrage then! Hmmmm?

19. Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them
Sun May 12, 2013, 11:40 PM
May 2013
Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them is a satirical book on American politics by comedian, political commentator and now Democratic United States Senator from Minnesota Al Franken, published in 2003 by Dutton, a subsidiary in the Penguin Group. Franken had a study group of 14 Harvard graduate students known as "TeamFranken" to help him with the research.[1] The book's subtitle, "A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right," is a parody of Fox News' tagline "Fair and Balanced." Fox sued Franken over the use of the phrase in a short-lived lawsuit, which has been credited with increasing the sales of the book.
Lies is one of several books published in 2003 written by American liberals challenging the viewpoints of conservatives such as Bernard Goldberg, Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity and Ann Coulter. These books by Franken and fellow authors such as Joe Conason, Michael Moore and Jim Hightower were described by columnist Molly Ivins as the "great liberal backlash of 2003."

Issa tried to let it appear Puckering had refused, nope not the case. If Issa is lying about this he is not to be believed. It wasn't so comfortable for Issa, where is your evidence Issa.

First, point to the September 12, 2012 speech of Obama in the Rose Garden on WhiteHouse.gov and of Hillary Clinton also on Sept. 12. 2012 possibly in the State Department.

Then how about this September 12, 2012 report that the attack was most likely an Al Qaeda attack. This is from CBS Evening News and the announcer begins by stating the date, Sept. 12, 2012.

http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=7421510n

If CBS knew, why does Issa now claim that Obama tried to hide the truth about the Benghazi attack.

Apparently today 42% of Americans disapprove of the way Obama handled this tragedy/attack. Robert Gates has spoken and his words carry more weight than Issa.

"Former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates told CBS News that Republican lawmakers who are blasting President Barack Obama’s administration for failing to take military action during last September’s surprise attacks in Benghazi have a “cartoonish” view of the military.

“I listened to the testimony of [Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta] and [Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Martin Dempsey],” Gates explained to CBS host Bob Schieffer in an interview that aired on Sunday. “And, frankly, had I been in the job at the time, I think my decisions would have been just as theirs were.”

“We don’t have a ready force standing by in the Middle East — despite all the turmoil that’s going on — with planes on strip alert, troops ready to deploy at a moment’s notice. And so, getting somebody there in a timely way would have been very difficult, if not impossible.”

3. Rove promised Issa the CA Gov then financed Ahhhnold.

... you can draw different conclusions from it.

On the one hand, he appears to have a checkered past and a misspent youth, but that he turned himself around after he got into ROTC and the Army Reserve (great evals from Wesley Clark). If you are a Republican, you can conclude that his financial and political success, and the fact that he is not in jail, are signs of his innocence (at least in the legal sense).

On the other hand, he appears to have a checkered past, present, and probably future -- he far-too-often for coincidence appears to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, with charges conveniently dropped; his foreclosure on Steal Stopper's prior owner's mortgage for one missed payment was technically legal, but ethically dubious; the arson fire at the Steal Stopper and Quantum factory and offices followed on Issa massively increasing his fire insurance, but nothing could be conclusively proven against him, so all he got was a reduced pay-out. All that before he moved to California.
