...where we kept out for many years, but armed the mujahideen against the USSR occupiers... Seems to me we may be making a similar mistake in Syria if we arm "the rebels" there (whoever the hell they are; we don't seem to have a good handle on that at the moment).

Unlike in Vietnam, when they were not.

Edit: and the problem is that we will knock those dominoes over if we go in, and, as we have shown so well in Iraq, we are not up to the job of setting things right after knocking them down.

There seems to be an infinite supply of clown politicians. They pop up like mushrooms and prance around for a few years and are replaced with new ones. Who can forget Tom DeLay?
