Serious loophole in environmental law. These fracking fluids are hazardous materials by definition. Why are they allowed to be injected into the ground? It boggles my mind.

Letterman has become a champion these days. He's got the fire in his belly and it's so wonderful to see after decades of being a cynic and joking about politics.

I love Letterman. My hope is to get to NY to see his show live before he retires.

He said, "The Hudson Valley has been ruined." So far, public pressure (and threat of litigation) has prevented Governor Andrew Cuomo from okaying fracking in New York.

On the downside, latest word I have is that a moratorium bill in the State Legislature is probably dead for this session, which is about to end.

In New York, therefore, there is currently no fracking but no solid protection against fracking, either. The fight will go on.

The glass of clean, drinkable, unfracked water is both half-full and half-empty.

If everyone just goes around saying "We're screwed," and resigning themselves to being screwed, then it will become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

For example, people in New York who care about the Hudson River valley should be calling their State Senators about three bills that have passed the Assembly and await action in the Senate:

As a woman in midst of an all out assault on abortion rights, I feel screwed. Opposition to choice has a zealotry that is intimidating. I'm still shaking from confrontations yesterday at a rally. I found myself shouting louder than I ever have to counter their chants. They are trying to force women into a controlled life. One controlled by men and by cruelty given how more women will die when they can't afford to support another child.

Fracking has all that power, money, and a ready made system. So it's one uphill battle after another. It depletes energy and resources to fight at every turn. I appreciate that Letterman uses his program to express concerns, and that includes being screwed unfortunately
