2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumMittens and Ayn: They don't have "foot-in-mouth disease"
if that means that they occasionally slip up and say something awkward that they didn't really mean.
The real problem is one that Maya Angelou warned us about:
"Oprah: My favorite Maya teaching is, "When people show you who they are, believe them."
Maya: Yesand believe them the first time!"

They just keep saying offensive and clueless things, and showing a lack of understanding of how inappropriate or cruel their behavior is (as with their dog), because these things come directly from their character, experiences, and their views of others, despite the fact that both obviously have been coached not to say many things that would reveal these factors even more clearly.
So until someone gives them a script to follow strictly, the hits will just keep on comin'. I'm just hoping that American voters will pay attention, and follow Ms. Angelou's advice, if not the first time, then sometime before the election.

(53,061 posts)is a frequent addition to a train of thought that actually makes it nonsenscial.
It is part of an unbridled optimism covered with cheerfulness that is endemic with some Mormon areas. It is used to show that no matter what happens the believer remains tremendously optomistic and cheerful.
For example you might hear "I love it that we all die so that we can all go one meet Jesus and then meet our God and that the men can evolve into Gods themselves and provide blessings to their own worlds."
So when Mitt says "I love to fire people" and Ann says "I love it that some women don't have the choice and have to both work and take care of kids" it IS NOT MISPEAK.
It is a dialect.
They are flumoxed that people find it both nonsensical and humorous.
Better believe that Obama will bring it up during the debate and then watch Romney get irritated, he really has very thin skin for a politician.

(34,467 posts)I have family members who are fundy in other religions and they also place a high premium on pretending to be happy and optimistic, when they aren't. But they don't use the "I love" language.
Unfortunately for the Romneys, they've made plenty of other statements that show lack of empathy (or worse) that do not involve the same speech patterns.

Prepare to scratch your head a lot and feel a general nausea.
