2016 Postmortem

http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=3813284I should have NY, OH & VA done in a couple of days.
My goal is to start the conversation about who needs to be replaced and why and then get to the HOW.
I'm serious people. BIG Deal, we need DEM & Green Election Judges because in reThug world, it isn't who VOTES that counts as much as who COUNTS the votes. We CAN NOT let ANY cheating happen in 2014. In a FAIR race we nearly ALWAYS win.
Feel free to add your bits and please K&R to get this conversation going in a positive direction.
WHAT we need to know is who on DU has got a piece of ANY of these races and how can we help?
WHOSE HOUSE? Them DEMs House, doncha know? In 2014 as long as we keep our momentum and keep going to the finish line. It's a marathon, but we can NOT quit. EYES on the PRIZE.
And what IS that PRIZE? The ability to pass laws and get America back on it's feet again.
To rebuild the Middle Class. To overturn Citizen's United and get REAL Campaign Finance Reform enacted.
TO prosecute the corrupt corporate greed barons and their bribe accepting thugs where there is enough proof to do so. So many thugs and barons will get away, but if we nab EVEN 1 or 2 the rest will attempt to behave themselves a tad better as long as we get and maintain full DEM representation. NOTHING short of a dual majority AND a DEM Pres will let US do that.
SO WHATEVER IT TAKES - legally - WE GOTTA DO IT.

(51,907 posts)They claimed that Obamacare cut Medicare, and Dems refused to answer with values-based arguments. If Dems cut SocSec, they will pose as its defenders. Truth is not relevant here, so complaining that the Repukes really want to cut it more isn't going to help.

(7,887 posts)Gathering information on who is up and what they are up to so we can start getting some organization and excitement for taking over the House in 2014.
WE the PEOPLE tell our DEMs in NO UNCERTAIN TERMS what we require of them to get elected and remove the party of OBSTRUCTION and they will do the job we sent them to do or be recalled and booted out and replaced with those who WILL.
TRUTH IS ALWAYS RELEVANT, so quit whining about what hasn't happened yet and start acting like a DEM.

Reducing racism
Reducing homophobia
And in the process of doing so: reducing the costs of healthcare
---
This affects all of us. You may not have a son at risk of falling prey to a vigilante wannabe-cop, but African-American mothers in Florida live in fear every time their son goes to school. They worry that their kid is confronted by a bully with a gun. They worry that this guy will pursue their child until he can 'stand his ground', make the child scream, and then make the child stop screaming. They worry that their sons' lives will end in minutes of agony. Daily worries like these increase the chances of anxiety and cardiovascular problems. Racism makes their life expectancy go down, and everyone's healthcare premius go up.
You may be a man. No-one is theatening you with laws that make miscarriages illegal. No-one is feeding the meme that you are just a breeding lust-object. No-one pulls a transvaginal probe at you when you are at your most vulnerable. No-one is shutting down health clinics that specialize in your health. But women all over the USA are in that situation. It threatens their life expectancy, and increases the chances that every little problem becomes an expensive disaster. For every act of misogyny, a woman's life is at danger, and your health-care premiums go up: because expensive disasters cost more.
You may be heterosexual. Michigan's constitution (to name but one example) does not affect your marriage. You are not at increased risk of feelings of low self-worth because your own state treats you like a second-rate citizen. You may not contemplate suicide because you are accused of 'pushing your agenda' every time you try to stand up for yourself. The Church of LDS and others do not call you an emissary of Satan, driving you to a prolongued or life-long depression. You may not be bashed for who you are. (And let's not even contemplate the health risks for transgender youth, which are astronomically higher than the already eery figures for gay and lesbian youth.) But someone you know is in that exact situation. If you don't know anyone who is LGBT, you might just be a freak. And one in every 12 people is in that situation. What do you think it does to the healthcare premiums when we continue to push people into mental health problems?
I know: I feel very strongly about these issues. I'll tell you why. - It's because all the situations I described are unnecessary. African-American minors do not have to be at risk of being killed with impunity. Feeling threatened by the color of someone's skin is a choice. Anyone can choose to stop being afraid of African-Americans this second. The anxiety of the mothers I described would decrease instantly, and cardiovascular problem rates would go down too, in time. Hating women is a choice too. Anyone can choose to see them as full human being right now. There is no reasonable argument to put their health, or rights, at peril. Despizing LGBT people is a choice. Many people with strong religious feelings manage to see them as God's children. Irreligious people ackowledge their common humanity. Treating them as sub-human is simply immoral, before God and otherwise. All these health-threatening situations come from the choice to be cruel. I feel strongly about cruelty. The fact that it drives up my health care premiums is just one more reason to feel strongly about it.
It has been said that one cannot put a price on a human life. But one can put a price on racism. One can put a price on misogyny. And one can put a price on homophobia.
That price is human lives.
And I'm not willing to pay a single one of those.
Let's reserve healthcare for the misery we can't prevent: eliminate discrimination.
