McCain Considering Seeking Reelection In 2016

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said Tuesday that he is considering running for another term in 2016, when he would be 80 years old.

"I'm seriously thinking about maybe giving another opportunity for you to vote for or against me in a few years from now," McCain said on KFYI-AM in Phoenix. "I'm seriously giving that a lot of thought."

Asked by host Barry Young to clarify if he was saying he might run again, McCain said: "That would not be wrong."

The New York Times's Mark Leibovich, who is in Arizona following McCain, first tweeted the news.

Perhaps he is redeeming himself for, you-know-who.

Saw him in an interview recently. That man is sharp, old, and damn wise. Age should be considered strictly on a case by case basis

10. Next year he'll be 90. I think sometimes, however, it is not just the age, but the personal energy

toll that especially the Presidency requires. He's been retired for a long time.

We watch all of them age quickly...gray hair...new wrinkles, etc. more than any office below them. It's the mental and physical stamina that gets drained and younger folks can recover faster than seniors. American presidents have immense personal and political burdens to bear, lose sleep, travel, have almost every move watched.

Because it is so uniquely draining a job. But the right person can serve well in the Senate into their 80's with the help of a well selected staff.

3. In the Game Change movie, McCain stated that he would retire

In the movie, McCain told Steve Schmidt that he would never retire because his dad and granddad both died after they ceased to work. I am not surprised by McCain's desire to run again but I do think that he may be vulnerable.

5. McCain wouldn't be the oldest though

Two are 80 and three more will hit 80 in the beginning of the year. Over all McCain is the 9th oldest. The problem with McCain is his erratic behavior.
