Ted Cruz Loves "The Princess Bride", and Other Things You Don't Need to Know

By Josh Voorhees

If you're going to read one thing about Ted Cruz today, go check out John Dickerson's great take on the "populist egghead" here. But, if you're looking for something on the lighter side, the Des Moines Register has a softball Q-and-A with the Texan Republican for you here. In it, we learn Cruz's dream job ("starting point guard for the Houston Rockets&quot and his least favorite food (avocados). But the only thing you really need to know to be in on the million-and-one jokes—or, I suppose, the same joke a million-and-one times—flooding Twitter today, is that Cruz's favorite movie is The Princess Bride:

Q. How do you unwind after a typical day at work?

A. “I’m a huge movie buff. Love watching movies. So we’ll often go and watch a movie. Also play video games on my iPhone, far too much, my wife points out. And then just playing with my kids, spend a lot of time at the park, in the pool, in the aquarium with my girls, at the beach.”

Q. And do you have a favorite movie?

A. “My favorite movie is ‘The Princess Bride.’”

All together now: Inconceivable!

I get that. I can watch that video of the shoe sailing toward Dubya's head for hours.

I'm surprised the interviewer didn't call him on that.

Oh, wait. He might have risked "access" to these nutballs.

Didn't rethugs swear off water when Michelle Obama said drink more water?

Now that's downright socialist.

no the Hungry Caterpillar was Bush's favorite!

If the media didn't mention him no one would have heard of him.

out loud in his Sponge Bob Squarepants pajamas with his lacy Teddy underneath and his plush, cuddly Teddy holding a cup of hot cocoa ,savoring each vowel and consonant, stringing together the syllables from the printed words.

'Whadda big boy my widdle Smoogey Woogey Biggum Boogum is",he repeats to himself to remind him of a happier time when he felt loved as a dribble of piddle wends its way into his cloth diaper under the pjs in happy recollection.
"Mommy, can i leave the clownie night light on for a little while?",slips unbidden, under his breath.
