Mitch McConnell Urges GOP to Stand Up to Utter Nonsense From Tea Party Purists
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has had it with a cottage industry of conservatives in political media and the grassroots which has singled out him and other Republican officeholders for primary challenges. In an interview with The Washington Examiner, McConnell urged Republicans to stand up to conservatives who insist that McConnells brand of governing is tantamount to acquiescence to Democratic priorities.
There were people who were basically afraid of (conservatives), frankly, McConnell told the Washington Examiner in a lengthy interview. Its time for people to stand up to this sort of thing.
The Senate Conservatives Fund is giving conservatism a bad name. Theyre participating in ruining the (Republican) brand, McConnell said. What they do is mislead their donors into believing the reason that we cant get as good an outcome as wed like to get is not because of a Democratic Senate and a Democratic president, but because Republicans are insufficiently committed to the cause which is utter nonsense.

(8,200 posts)The Repukians are willing to compromise basic principles to win at any cost. They consigned themselves to a losing strategy when they aligned their party with the evangelicals and Tea Party nitwits and topped it off with alienating women and minorities. They are the party of the willfully ignorant misinformed lemmings.

Everyone on the right is unwilling to work with the Democrats, it's just that to be accepted by the tea party you have to scream louder.
The outcome you want is not good, it's just the outcome you want (at all costs)
If you read his statement closely, you will see he did a no-no by tea party standards
he said "Democratic Senate and a Democratic president"
to be a good tea partier he should have said
"Democrat Senate and a Democrat president"
He didn't go the extra mile to be obnoxious.

(2,529 posts)that there are no sensible Republicans. There are the far-out crazy ones and the to-the-moon-and-back crazy ones. Their crazy is a matter of degrees. They ran off all the moderates in their party and distilled it to its thickest, most toxic sludge. Now, they're engaged in a civil war between the factions of the super wing nut cases and the super-duper ones that are so glaringly idiotic that they'll destroy their village to protect it.

(11,843 posts)What gives conservatism its bad name is conservatism as defined by the idiots now in office. When they have to "sell" their platform to the people that vote for them, they acknowledge that they do not represent the people, they represent the money that is funneled to them.

(7,403 posts)Until they turned their guns on him. Funny how a dose of hardball politics can change one's view. But it matter little whether McConnell survives the Tea Party challenge because it would still leave in place dysfunctional government unless the Democrat unseats the Republican candidate.

(381 posts)To "stand up to" the utter nonsense from tea party purists. The same utter nonsense he has always gone along with and never had an unkind thing to say about? Gee turtle man, what changed? It's good policy when the tea party challenges and defeats dozens of your colleagues but when your name is on their bullet it becomes utter nonsense? Enjoy your primary Mitch. And don't worry too much, whoever they elect will be just as big a hypocrite as you.
