(60,536 posts)except the individual names of my four sons. I saw a thread here yesterday discussing the origins of the name and that it was white in origin. I also saw a thread (on another site) reporting the name referred to the child being black. Today, I came across a news site linking to the report contained in the OP. So, do me a favor, get off your self-righteous high horse and go squabble with someone else.
question everything
(47,485 posts)It was really sad to see how so many on DU did not see anything wrong with Melissa Harris Perry unfortunate segment last week; it is bad enough that some thought that Romney's son is going to run for office and decided that a black child will be a good prop; it is sad that some think that an African American woman cannot possibly say anything that can hurt an African American baby and his family; bad enough that some determined that the child will be "the nail that sticks up, and will eventually "get hammered down;" bad enough that his parents "will lock him in the attic and take him out for photo ops;" that there are not black Mormons..
Enough. Put this topic to rest.
Better yet, self delete this.

(60,536 posts)No. Do a search for yesterday's thread discussing the origins of the name, demand that thread be deleted and then come back and tell me if your demands were met.

(50,559 posts)Kieran is the name of Ireland's first saint...but I checked at least a dozen baby name sites and got one basic translation: "kieran" is Gaelic for "dark-skinned."

(5,754 posts)The baby was named by the folks who adopted it, right? Not by Mitt.

(50,559 posts)...but I've encountered families whose children are expected to have the family patriarch approve baby names.
I did a family genealogy book that would scare the living shit out of you. This thing was well over 100 pages long, and was named something like "the descendants of Frederick Smith." Every family whose tie to Frederick was the husband, the firstborn son was named Frederick. Every family whose tie to ol' Fred was the wife, the first child had Smith as the middle name. And no descendant was childless if they were an adult at time of printing. That doesn't happen without orders.
