Christie vetting for vice-president

Last edited Tue Jan 21, 2014, 09:20 AM - Edit history (1)

There has been a lot of stuff coming out about Christie lately, but the most interesting is why Romney didn't pick him for VP.

I've been reading Double Down. I know to take the book with a grain of salt, but some of the stuff about Christie is interesting given what has come out.

-Christie's brother was implemented in an investment scandal

-Christie's staff was referred to as "...overbearing and demanding in ways that would have been unthinkable from any other surrogate. Trenton insisted on private jets, lavish spreads of food, space for a massive entourage" (p. 407)

-He was chronically behind schedule which irritated Romney. Christie was suppose to introduce Romney at a fund-raising event at the Grand Hyatt New York and instead ended up going up to speak before he arrived. When Christie arrived he upstaged Romney.

-Christie's law partner and top fundraiser Bill Palatucci owns a chain of shady halfway houses in NJ and Beth Myers called around to try to find out about them.

-Christie's staff (including Palatucci) would only provide information on their terms and told Romney's staff if they didn't like it they could go pound sand.

-Palatucci would ask why they needed a piece of information and then when they didn't respond Myers assumed they didn't answer it was because it was bad.

-Christie as a US attorney exceeded his travel expenses without adequate justification

-Christie was a lobbyist for the Securities and Industry Association (SIA) when Madoff was a senior official at the SIA and sought an exception from NJ's Consumer Fraud Act

-Christie would steer large contracts toward donors like John Ashcroft.

It seems like the list of things he's done is extensive. I have to wonder what we don't know.

My guess is we will soon see disappearances of some of the individuals who might be able to tell us, ". . . what we don't know."

Just my guess, of course.

He is also an asthmatic. That's why he's trying to loose weight

I just got tired of typing because there was so much. But it was mentioned that he may have asthma.

Even the most seemingly nice Republican has to be a crook, otherwise why join the Guilty Offender Party?

Which is why he had to lose weight. From what I've heard that is often the best cure.

Hahah, if he didn't have one before, he sure as hell has one now!

Very interesting post. Thanks for taking the time to pull these points out for us.

I guess a good indicator that he was going to pull stuff like this is when he took the helicopter to his son's Little League game.

I laughed when the OP said there's more--he just got tired of typing!

the whole bridge scandal, of course he forgot that he told the reporters he had only heard about it earlier in the day. That must be some kind of sleep disorder.

I can't remember any time in the past where someone leaked a background investigation for a VP candidate. An insider on the Romney staff must have been really really pissed at Christie to do that.
