http://www.mercurynews.com/news/ci_25274285Takei, 76, will helm a campaign fundraiser for Rep. Mike Honda, D-San Jose, on March 20 in San Francisco, as Honda in his trek for an eighth term tries to fend off Democratic challenger Ro Khanna and Republican Vanila Singh....
Takei, a Los Angeles resident, said they bonded over their shared experience as Japanese-American children who, with their families, were sent to internment camps during World War II. Both later realized that civic engagement was the best way to keep such a thing from ever happening again....
The proof, he said, came after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. "Mike has been a champion for our not repeating with Arab-Americans the mistake that happened when Pearl Harbor was bombed. This kind of sensitivity, the awareness on the part of our elected officials, is absolutely essential to our democracy. Thank God we had Mike there."
For those of you just joining us, Khanna is a district-shopper who raises big, big bucks from $iliValley types, whereas Honda is one of the most solid Dems on the Hill. Out here, all three candidates will appear on the June ballot, with the top two (likely Honda and Khanna) facing off in November. Hooray for Takei!

(312 posts)For a moment there I thought I was going to read a Mercury newsletter with an advertisement for a new Honda car. Somehow working in Rhianna.
Awesome nonetheless. It's okay to be Takei.

(78,249 posts)Mercury was once mined in the San Jose area for use in gold mining up in the Sierra foothills.
It was once one of the finest papers in the land, featuring hard-hitting pieces like Gary Webb's reporting on the contras and drug dealing, but then it and several other area dailies were sold to a conglomerate called MediaNews Group, so now they suck.

(78,249 posts)between Honda (96% ADA) and Khanna the district-shopper who raises money from Zuckerberg et al. Both are nominally Dems, and will likely face off in a November runoff. Who would you vote for?

(94,598 posts)...and as for financial support, I don't get involved in out of state Primaries or safe districts.
FWIW, do you have any SPECIFIC complaints about Khannna and his positions? "Raises money from Zuckerberg" is a little vague.

My complaints about Khanna revolve around his district-shopping; he began his fundraising efforts while looking at taking on Pete Stark in the East Bay. Also, I hate to see Dems (?) challenging solid liberals like Stark and Honda. (Of course, I don't mind when a lefty challenges a DINO.

(94,598 posts)Since I have finite resources and federal limits, I think the TOP priority is holding the Senate and winning back the battleground State Governorships. I have no expectation (and a senior House member I met with concurs) of putting the House back into play until after the 2020 redistricting. I DEFINITELY wouldn't be wasting my money in a district that'll go Democratic no matter who the nominee is.
