So I have this idiot GOP teabagger friend that claims

that of the 7M enrolled in the ACA, 6M of them were forced to lose their insurance due to the ACA and had to reapply under the ACA. And of course, they're paying more than they were with their sub standard insurance. And of course, their new deductibles are higher than their sub standard insurance. And of course, someone put a gun to their head to apply. So his point was that only 1M new people have officially been added. The right is so delusional over this, it's killing them. OMG the ACA is really working!!!! And in more ways than one. And I'm loving every second of it.

Of course, I have not read nor heard ANYTHING about this. I'm guessing he heard it on FAUX, but who knows. What I do know is that the far right is freaking out because the ACA has been such a huge success. So I asked him, show me proof. He's working on that. LMAO.

he's rich and not stupid. He and his far right wife have insurance already. He would go out of his way to pay more, just so he cannot support Obama.

But to get to your point, I agree. The GOP is creating their own death panels, not the ACA.

Those comments are from ACA insured. There are a few negative posts, but some are repeated and probably many are from trolls.

You can't argue with these people. They are brain-washed beyond repair.

These people are the 33% of the staunch far right GOP supporters. They will never change their minds, or listen to reason. Arguing with them is like talking to a brick wall. I've had to hang up with him on the phone several times. Why I waste my time talking politics with him is beyond me.

If you haven't read about it you can find an explanation in many places without visiting fox. We need to wait for a breakdown of the numbers. Obama's 7M. Pelosi's 9.5M. Who they are does matter but no need to jump to conclusions until we have details. The first goal was met so expect the best and don't worry until/if bad news comes, not bad rumors.

Don't gloat about breakdown yet but you will likely be able to throw that 1M claim back in his face very soon WITH FACTS rather than speculation. For now just stick with the FACT that the 7M goal was met which opponents have been saying wouldn't be done for the last 4+ months.

The Republicans seem to be obsessed with the metrics and they are now justifying their opposition to ACA by lowballing the enrollment numbers (if not accusing them of being completely fabricated) and/or attacking it using other metrics. I would simply ask him what the Republican plan is (or what is HIS alternative idea for fixing the health care plan) and how it would work better for the greatest number people than ACA. If ACA helps 7 million or 1 million, it's still helping people. As for the insurance cancellations, insurance companies cancel plans all of the time. In fact, many people have their individual policies for 1-2 years, pay a lot of money into them, and still can get bankrupted if something happens. A lot of those policies were usually not that great anyway. Of course, I suspect that he is one of those people for whom the "old" system worked just fine since you said that he is rich, so he probably feels that the changes and improvements of the ACA won't benefit him personally (they will but he probably doesn't care) and he probably doesn't really care about what's going on with other people or what their needs might be.

I mean, something is seriously wrong IMHO with people like this person (and Fox and other right-wingers) whom are fighting tooth and nail to discourage people to get health coverage.

This guy totally opposes any free government handouts, yet took advantage of the government handout of trading his car in for clunkers a few years back. And of course they're both on social security. He's such a hypocrite. He usually associates handouts (food stamps and unemployment benefits, etc) to uneducated black people. He hates Obama, and anything/everything he stands for. He is the true meaning of a racist, which I am totally against. He's is his 70's which accounts for most of his demeanor. What I don't understand is his total ignorance for the less fortunate in this country. And then he constantly keeps tabs on how much it is costing the taxpayers money to shuttle the Obama's around the world. He's frickin nuts. The sad part is that there are a lot of these GOP assholes that think just like him. I read a few months back it was 33%. Thank God it's not higher. They are all over FAUX news, and of course those supporters. The weird part is that outside of politics, he's actually a nice guy, which is one reason he's still a friend. He'd help anyone in a heartbeat and I've actually witnessed it. It's like Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Very strange.

And yes, I cannot understand why people are fighting tooth and nail to discourage people to get health care. WTF.

Close. My guess is through all the chain e-mails sent out by his drunk uncle living in the root cellar. I get BUNCHES of them every month. My former college roommate sends them to me because he knows it will set my hair on fire - and I love them!

When I look at the message, it is usually a Fwd: Fwd:, and if I look closer, I see it's origins are the same two Reich-winger friends of my ex-roommate. And I respond to almost (there are a lot of them) every one of them! And Cc all! The fun ones are when I get some YouTube that 'sez it all, "See? See? This is what's wrong with America", and I'll watch it to the end and see that it's from a white racist supremacist group like Stormfront. Pointing that out to them - and I never get a response back.

I will argue with them with facts and logic at times, but it doesn't matter; all they do is change the subject or go ad hominem.

From Raw Story, Amanda Marcotte, March 26, 2014:

"Conservative leaders have learned that if you drown your opposition in lies, they are doomed. Even if they debunk one lie, audiences who are eager to buy into the anti-contraception line will simply cling to another. If you debunk that lie, conservatives just switch to another or switch back."

Exactly what happens to me.

But he's a 75 year old senior citizen and doesn't have a lot of friends. I can't just turn him to the curb and ignore him. It's not in my personality. Like I said before, outside of politics, he's a very nice guy. Read above and maybe you'll understand. But then again, maybe not, since you just had to post your post.
