An epidemic of self-pity among the wealthy raises questions about the mental health of the top of the top 1 percentJOAN WALSH
Does being super-wealthy make you extra susceptible to self-pity today? Thats the only conclusion we can draw from an epidemic of self-pitying American billionaires decrying their persecution by despots, and the Kristallnacht of rising concern about income inequality, over just the last few months.
Charles Koch is the latest to fall victim to what funnier folks than me have labeled the WATB syndrome, with a whiny op-ed in the Wall Street Journal. Collectivists in government, Koch writes those who stand for government control of the means of production and how people live their lives, i.e. Democrats strive to discredit and intimidate opponents. It gets worse: They engage in character assassination. (I should know, as the almost daily target of their attacks.)
Im worried about Charles Koch. For one thing, with all his billions, he couldnt find a better ghost writer? His silly op-ed, with its alarmist Marxist clichés and fusty Schopenhauer references, would have been dismissed as an April Fools joke if published just one day sooner. It came the same day as the Supreme Courts McCutcheon decision, which only increased its ridiculousness.
But Kochs self-pity and persecution complex is downright unhealthy. He clearly suffers from the same malady as Tom Perkins, who delusionally compared rising political concern about income inequality to Kristallnacht for the rich. Newspaper-destroying real estate mogul Sam Zell, who cosigned Perkins, is also a victim, complaining the super-rich are getting pummeled because its politically convenient to do so, when in fact the 1 percent work harder.

(1,363 posts)When you have elderly, arrogant billionaires like Adelson (80) and the Kochs, (78 and 80) you gotta know that sooner than later Death will get 'em. Meanwhile, they're buying our Judicial and Political system, but there's a way to beat them, regardless of wealth:
GET YOUR ASS TO THE BALLOT BOX. Make the 1/10 of the 1% sweat because they cannot buy your vote. get the vote out and there's the way to beat them at their own game.

Fox News freaked when Obama won in 2008 as millions who had never been acknowledged before got out and voted. And they freaked out worse in 2012, as they had justifed all the schemes to disenfranchise voters. They really believed that their reality ruled, their false narrative, but it didn't. And despite all the tricks, they could not overcome the sheer numbers who didn't believe the lies.
To not vote is to vote for the people hurting us now, as apathy always benefits the status quo. If we look we can see the reality of what is happening, the 7 million registered for Obamacare, although the numbers are much greater as it didn't show all the Medicaid expansions and children staying on their polices.
The media has blacked out everything good Obama has done, edited his words, lied outright and people on the right believe them and vote. And others give up because they listen to them, and their hearts grow faint.
The people with too much to lose cannot afford to not jump through the hoops to vote, not afford to not get out and help others vote, such as Planned Parenthood most likely did while they registered so many people for Obamacare. In 2012, an article at Kos quoted a part of the ACA that facilitated registering voters. Perhaps from their work alone, over a million and a half voters were registered to overcome the GOP tricksters.
And others have been out doing the same, registering people. If it was not effective, the GOP with their Koch millions wouldn't be fighting so hard. About Planned Parenthood:
Planned Parenthood ACA Outreach
Published on Mar 31, 2014
The Affordable Care Act is one of the greatest advancements for women's health in a generation. As the leading women's health care provider and advocate, Planned Parenthood fought hard for the law's passage, and now we are working to make sure our patients and the communities we serve know about their new health care options.
In just a few months, Planned Parenthood reached out to over 1,560,000 people and had more than 300,000 conversations about health insurance.

There is so much that has been held back about this law and there is plenty we can do to overcome the RW.
'We must hang together, or we will hang separately' is the Founder quote, but that goes for everything. We can love each other enough to keep working on this.

Wealth is wasted upon the rich, as their comfortable life with others waiting on them breeds infantilism. As spoilt brats, they look no further than their own wishes. They don't have any good ideas of what to do with money, they fail every time.
