Speculation Builds on Michelle Obama Senate Run

First Lady could be positioning herself for a run at Mark Kirk's seat in 2016

FLOTUS for Senate?

It wasn't that long ago that such a slogan would seem absurd, but political wags are beginning to wonder whether Michelle Obama is mulling a run for Illinois Sen. Mark Kirk's seat in 2016.

A Thursday column in Reuters suggests that Obama would be the only candidate with a large enough profile to unseat the Republican.

The column also points to Obama's recent willingness to debate the merits of her school lunch program with Republicans, a trip to China, fundraising and her stance on the kidnapped Nigerian school girls as other signs that her tone is turning more political.

It's not the first time Obama has been mentioned as a potential senatorial candidate, but that speculation has always focused beyond 2016. And the First Lady herself has never publicly indicated any interest in seeking political office.

Recently Obama was asked what would he think if Michelle went on to pursue public office. He laughed and said that he would ask what had they done with his wife. That she'll never run for office.

I don't think that Michelle likes politics too much. I think that she would do a good job, but I don't get the feeling that she would want the constant B.S. and stress that it would entail.

According to our local news, they aren't returning to Chicago after the WH, they're looking at NY.
They will be starting a foundation similar to Clinton.

Considering they just spent 8 years in the White House and will still have one daughter in school. Some are trying to draw a comparison between her and Hilary Clinton at the end of her husband's term where she ran for Senate. Ms. Obama has been much less outspoken on political issues and has pretty much said flat out that she wouldn't have the patience for it. I don't blame her. It will never happen.

16. WTF? You Are Seriously Questioning The POTUS & The FLOTUS' Party Affiliation?

If you question whether the First Lady, the wife of President Barack Obama, a Democrat, and not just a Democrat, the leader of the Democratic Party, who has done so much to advance Americans from all walks of life to turn out & vote for Democratic candidates. If you have the nerve to question what party Michelle Obama would represent in an election for the United States Senate, it seems to me that you are taking a cheap shot against OUR PRESIDENT.

In that case would you rather Mitt Romney has been elected? While we are always free & welcome to have a lively debate about some policy issues the President has taken up or not taken up, when you question if the First Lady Of The United States is a Democrat, then you obviously question everything about our Democratic President, including his party affiliation & that of his family, when you stoop that low, I think its time you leave this site because this site is for Democrats & Democrats who support Democrats & Democrats who work our asses off to help elect Democrats, including the President, twice, so for you to question what party he represents, you discount all the hard work that not only I, but you also discount the work that everybody here on DU spent tirelessly working our asses off to Elect President Obama & Re-Elect President Obama, & that shit is not acceptable or welcome on this website or in the Democratic Party...

Its simple, your welcome to debate the President's policies, but your not welcome to discount everything the President has done & everything he will continue to do by questioning his & the First Lady's party affiliation

Basically if you don't like OUR PRESIDENT, YOU DON'T LIKE OUR PARTY, which indicates that you no longer belong on DU....

She'll do some great things that couldn't be done if elected to office.

EDIT: I think we ought to concentrate on the mid-terms at this point instead of throwing all these theories around.
