Fiscal conservative means pay as you go and borrow as little as you can.

It does not say anything about where to allocate funds, or what the priorities for spending are.

For the record, I'm for social spending. I rather spend money to develop infrastructure here, than to destroy infrastructure there.

Fiscal Conservatives for the past 64 years certainly had policies on where to allocate funds.. and they certainly did not favor “social spending”... Just because you broke out of the mold, doesn’t mean it meant something different back then.. Tough Guy!!!

I've never met a leftist from Kentucky that I haven't liked. Ditto WV. I'm betting he can speak in clear plain language and connect with people. There's a warmth about folks in those two states . . .

He reminds me so much - soooooo much - of a Republican relative of mine, it's delicious to see him lose. Hopefully the few reasonable people left in VA will get to the polls in November.

Based on PVI, Cook rates VA-7 as the 130th most Republican district in the country.

In 2012, Nick Rahall survived in WV-3, the 70th most Republican district in the country, where both McCain and Romney did better than they did in VA-7. Jim Matheson even survived in UT-4, the 53rd most Republican district.

The conclusion is that Brat starts with an edge but that PVI's don't win elections. It depends on the candidates. Rahall and Matheson were incumbents who were well suited to their district. Our hope must be that with Brat, we have the opposite effect -- a red district that will go blue not because the Democrat is so good but because the Republican is so bad.

ETA the link to Cook's PVI ratings for every district (if it looks as if you merely found a blank, scroll down, there's a lot of white space at the top of the first page).
