Related: About this forumElizabeth Warren to Chris Matthews: STOP IT!
Elizabeth Warren did not allow Chris Matthews to bully her on Hardball. She schooled him with the Democratic message and politics.

(45,319 posts)She was a Republican when I was demonstrating against Republicans weekly. At that time Chris Matthews was a Democrat. Warren was, to put it bluntly, in the enemy camp. She was part of the cold hearted conservative opposition.
All the pr in the world will not get her my vote without hearing some in depth discussion of her Republican past. Life is not all about markets.

(10,845 posts)I never knew that. Wow. That makes me think very differently of her.
Are we talking college Republican or as a full-fledged adult?

(45,251 posts)Hillary was not only a Republican, but connected enough at a young age to be a "Goldwater Girl" and to get tickets to attend Republican conventions.
But, lest one fan group or another descend on me, I will point out--and if I don't, someone else will--that Hillary turned Democrat at a much younger age than Warren did.
And, for the Warren group-- people can truly change political views at any age; and, as best I can tell, Warren seems to have done that.
(Obama is okay with her and so is Manny Goldstein. So, that has to say something.)

(30,247 posts)Hillary was 17 when she was a Goldwater girl, while Warren was 46 when she chose to switch parties. That means that she probably voted for Nixon, Ford, Reagan and Bush Sr.
Tarheel_Dem
(31,234 posts)withhold my vote based solely on her political past, but there are other reasons I'm second thinking EW. Please understand that the invasion and occupation of Iraq was the last straw for a lot of Republican converts.

(4,695 posts)That testament gives great credibility to the progressive cause. Keep in mind that she see that grassroots support across America is the progressive movement that is lacking.
Battleground Texas is such a cause.

(34,589 posts)I'm sure there were (and still are) Republicans who were overall nicer human beings than some Democrats.
For example, Wall Street is mostly "Democratic".
Cleita
(75,480 posts)hooked up with Bill Clinton. I think she was even a Goldwater girl or was heavily into the campaign of one of those Repubs back then. Will she not get your vote either should she be THE Democratic presidential candidate?

(75,480 posts)as you see it? Many have switched parties in middle age. My Republican, house wife mother did, when she found herself a widow at the age of 45 and cut off from my dad's income. Getting a job at her age and becoming a member of the female working class was a big epiphany for her as it probably was to a college age Hillary, like it was to me at college aged and to a middle aged Elizabeth Warren.
Beacool
(30,247 posts)was a Goldwater girl. She was a teenager at the time, Warren was a middle aged woman.

(12,157 posts)Ed Schultz was a re'puke and Stephanie Miller was a Goldwater girl. If someone can see the error of their thinking why should they bother to become a Dem when they will never be trusted. For that matter why should you be trusted? I'm sure that you have changed your outlook in some way over your lifetime. I have. I have changed in my view of capital punishment, marriage equality among other things.

(19,835 posts)Probably not a real Goldwater Girl even though her dad was his running mate.
(Just stickin' up for Mama. Your larger point is well taken.)

(12,157 posts)Maybe it was the candy that drew her in as in, "Candy bar little girl, step into my car and we will have fun."
Bad, bad, TexasProgresive. Behave yourself.

The Long Island Democratic Party was thrilled to have FDR because he could bankroll his own campaigns with little to no financial help from the local Democratic Party.

(10,893 posts)why more isn't being done in D.C. after the D's controlling the WH and the Senate? This is some sort of ignorance I'd expect to hear online. Hey Chris, just look at your red friends in the House, and you'll see why more isn't being done. Unless your party controls all 3 areas, there isn't much that you can do to advance your agenda. That's basic civics.
Seriously, that was a Homer question on his part. As a political pundit, he should know all about how our government runs and about the checks-and-balances system. EW was 100% correct when she called on more Americans to participate in the process, and to recognize the stark contrasts between the Democratic agenda and the Republican agenda.

(718 posts)I was dumbfounded. I was only watching because Elizabeth Warren was on his show. MSNBC has become totally bought and paid for by corporate interests and most of their pundits are shills. Chris Matthews should resign in disgrace. He's a bully who does not deserve any respect whatsoever. What a wasted career he's had.
Jamaal510
(10,893 posts)whichever way the political winds blow. At one point, you hear him talk up the D's and Obama. The next moment, it's all doom and gloom, or "the Republicans are gonna' win big in November", or "both parties blah blah blah..." And if I'm correct, he was real supportive of Bush ll before O became president.
Because of all this, everything he says should be taken with a grain of salt.

(31,234 posts)use his platform to educate, instead he chooses to pontificate and act the fool. Like I said, if anyone should know how government works, it's Tweety. He acts as if his spittle laced tirades are a substitute for actual governance.

What's pathetic is he doesn't even see the irony that he constantly interrupts and then ends his show with a segment called, "Let Me Finish."
