Related: About this forumYou may NOT thank a vet
If you didn't vote. You may as well have said eat shit and die. You think vets are worthy of adulation yet you are so useless, lazy and cowardly that you could not take the doughnut out of you face, get off the couch and drag yer stupid butt to the polls for the hour out of your life that all that would have taken. If you did not vote, you do not have the right to thank a vet. I'm a Vietnam Nam vet and I always vote and I am sick and tired of you chicken Hawks pretending to be patriotic. Maybe when a vet is thanked his response should be "did you vote?" And if the response is "no" then maybe it's time to say "fuck you".

(1,237 posts)actually there are plenty of good reasons for not voting
especially when we have gone out of our way to disenfranchise votes, specifically, poor/minority voters.
. just go vote does not work for people who work 2 jobs and have kids
and voting is on a non-holiday.

(885 posts)I work a full-time job and have three children (ages 3, 5 and 7). I commute about 36 miles one way to work, so that's another 36 miles home. I'm also a full-time college student, enrolled in six courses and my commute to campus is 49.5 miles on way. My two boys have baseball twice a week that begins anywhere from 1730 to 1800.
I managed to go to work, go to class, make it to my designated polling station to vote and still had time to get the kids to baseball.
I don't penalize those who are too busy to make it. Life happens, but where there's a will, there's a way.

(6,286 posts)I appreciate everyone who does/did their job, including vets. And I always vote. But I don't take marching orders from anyone. Sorry about that.

"We don't give enough thanks to our selfless veterinarians!"
"Um... Roseanna, the OP said 'thank a veteran.' Not a veterinarian."
"Oh....... OK. Well, you know what they say: 'it's always something'!"
