2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumDRIVE TO 1000 DUers to CLICK LINK HERE REQUESTING the DNC FIRE WASSERMAN:
Use this link to ask for her to be fired and for a new DNC chair and for a reform of the DNC now. When you blatantly fail to get a job done, and one with such high stakes as DNC Chair, you must be dismissed immediately and replaced with someone good.
http://my.democrats.org/page/s/contact-the-democrats
Also, you should send emails to your Dem state party chairs and Dem state party DNC reps. Just Google your state Dem party sites. Every state has DNC reps.
Writing to your Dem congressional reps/senators and state reps/senators and governors also can't hurt. I have been doing all this.
We obviously need to dismiss Wasserman and a get a GOOD, FULL TIME OUTSIDER, not necessarily Dean but someone like him, (or him if possible, or Jim Dean his brother would be good too), and get that DNC operation running right again.
It is the second mid term in a row they have sat out of messaging and persuasion. Yes, they helped state parties with money, but that doesn't cut it. There was no message. No definition of the election. No big ideas. No touting of Obama's record. No clear lines drawn in the sand. etc.
GOTV and "Stand On Your Own" is not a strategy and no way to win an election. Even the RePUKES say they didn't so much win the election, we LOST it. Wasserman must go, and DNC needs to be shook up NOW.
Can some good techie out there start a facebook page called "CHANGE THE LEADERSHIP AT THE DNC"? Any other ideas about how we can spread this word. If we want the party to get its act together, WE HAVE TO TAKE SOME ACTION. I have already had direct email conversations with my key state party leaders including the DNC reps here in Maine. They have written back and know how I feel. MILLIONS of Dems need to do this now.

(22,000 posts)I sent the message. I really would like to see a Change.org or MoveOn petition as they are easier to share with others.

(15,435 posts)Haven't kept up with what they're doing of late so not sure what has made others upset with them.
I used to be a member, but I dropped out of here and a lot of political comment because it was causing me too much stress. Started up again, but feel like an outsider more and more. Could go on and on about this, but this isn't the subject of this post.
I agree with you, but see too much apathy and wonder how effective the Democratic Party is anymore.

(15,646 posts)good idea. Thanks for starting this. Told them I'm leaning more and more toward voting for the Green Party (which I am) if the Ds don't start standing up for and effecting progressive principles rather than hiding from them. ... If change won't happen within, maybe it's time to look outside.

(15,435 posts)Wasserman? I really don't know, just wondering. Since I live in Florida I may have heard more about her and her other connections. While I will admit that not everything I've heard is truth/fact, but seems to me that people in other states don't see how ineffective and perhaps "bumbling" she is. Very definitely DLC leaning and maybe more than most Third Way Dems.
I really feel strongly enough about this to keep this front and center.

(13,570 posts)on her Congressional seat. They need to get a good professional political operative in their to focus on it FULL TIME and someone from the outside ready to reform it. Either Dean or someone like him.

(13,570 posts)need new LEADERSHIP on those fronts. So she raised a lot of money. What good did it do??? You can't just do GOTV. You have to have a MESSAGE, and it was sorely lacking. You have to define the election.
She stood up there and said "Our candidates are to stand on their own." That's a campaign strategy? No. Look. I'm not saying she's a bad person. What I am saying is she is not a good POLITICAL operative. She needs to concentrate on her congressional seat. We need a strong outsider political operative who understands the electorate and understands messaging, not a DC insider trapped inside the beltway who can't even form a message and theme for an election. And even with the money, can't even figure out a more effective GOTV operation.
Why did her GOTV fail? Because it had to MESSAGE behind it. It had no UNIFYING THEME. She must GO.
As far as the DCCC and DSCC, as far as I'm concerned their leadership can go too. But she is the head the of the party at the DNC. The buck starts and stops there.
No excuses please. She FAILED at her DNC job, and she MUST be FIRED now. You are defending someone who just did a SHITTY job that cost us BIGTIME. She must be fired immediately, and we need a competitive process for finding a new DNC head from OUTSIDE the beltway.

(56,582 posts)That in a sense was the message and strategy: make it a race between the two candidates, not a national referendum.

(31,823 posts)I'm not going to sign because I made clear via written letter last year that they would no longer be getting my money - I would give strictly to candidates I deemed worthy.
But her's a kick and a rec for those of you they still have their hands out to!

(13,570 posts)Just sending a note asking to replace the DNC chair doesn't mean you have to give money. We need a DNC, and we need one with a good chairperson who can do the job full time and will be much more of a fighter. The DNC SUCKED in this last election, to say the least. We need a new chair.

(31,823 posts)After they threw Bouno under the bus. In writing. I was actually able to give large sums this election by bypassing the DNC entirely.
I think those who gave this past election directly to the DNC have a voice there.
But I've learned even at the Mayoral level - liberals and progressives need to work around and behind the party's back to make changes.
DWS should do the noble thing and step down. The fact that she hasn't been removed or stepped down speaks volume about the character of the org.
