But party voters also prefer a contested primaryWest Long Branch, NJ The Monmouth University Poll finds that former Secretary of State
Hillary Clinton is the top choice for 2016 among Democrats and Democratic leaning voters.
However, most Democratic voters would prefer to see a contested primary campaign, including many of those who back Clinton.
When asked to name who they would like to see as the next Democrat nominee for president,
nearly half (48%) of Democrats and Democratic leaning voters volunteer Hillary Clinton. No other candidate registers in double digits. Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren is named by 6%, independent Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders is named by 2%, and Vice President Joe Biden is named by 2%.
The poll question asked survey participants to name a preference without providing a list of
suggested candidates. Fully 6-in-10 are able to volunteer a choice more than a year before the first official nominating contest. Another 32% say they are undecided at this stage and 7% report that they do not plan to support any Democrat for 2016.
When nearly half of Democratic voters volunteer the name Hillary Clinton as their choice for
2016, its hard to deny that she is the clear front runner, said Patrick Murray, director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute in West Long Branch, New Jersey. At the same, time Democrats do not want to the nomination process to be a coronation.

(5,082 posts)Expect low Democratic turnout. And these polls are meaningless and only reflect name recognition so early in the game.

(5,082 posts)In this dynamic political landscape her ship has sailed. People in general do not want another repeat Bush vs Clinton election. We want a populist...someone who cares with all their soul for the people. Hillary us very obvious in making sure the most important thing to her is herself. And besides, conceding our Anti-Nepotism advantage against Jeb Bush is extremely foolish even for centrists who've hijacked our party.

(5,082 posts)Why not? My opinion matters as much as the ostriches. The last election PROVED everything hinges on turnout now because battle lines have been drawn and people know how they identify. You have to motivate voters and show them you're not another cowardly, self-serving, double talking, flip-flopping politician. It's fairly obvious by comments here and out in public that many weekend Democrats will stay home uninspired if we select another Clinton. Same goes for Bush. It would probably be the lowest turnout in history. Killing Hope & Change with a race to the bottom with Republicans. Real nice vision for the future.

(5,066 posts)what does this tell us
1:Liberals have no place In Democratic party anymore
2:The democratic party is clearly a centrist and center right party now
3:The democratic party supports endless war In middle east so neocons control democratic party too
4:The democratic party only cares about the economic intrests of banks, corporations, and top 1%
5 emocratic party doesn't care how many black youths are killed by police
5:The democratic party wants to bust unions-Andrew Curmo is proving this In new york and pass more trade deals giving corporations more power.
There can be no other explanation since they want to give hillary clinton a cornation

(5,066 posts)Hillary as progressive is as much a myth as liberal media.
I have voted plenty of times since 1992 for dems I am to left on
I oppose death penalty
I am against any involvement in middle east wars
I oppose all free trade deals since i consider them nothing more that making it easier for company's to outsource jobs
I oppose keystone since it's terrible for environment and will do nothing for jobs
I would rather cut military and corporate welfare than cut social security,SSI,medicare, medicaid, and food stamps
I oppose torture
I support gay marriage and woman's right to choose
I believe it should be easier to get condoms and birth control pills
Corporate bonus for those who tank economy pisses me off
I believe we will never have campaign reform till it's illegal for corporations to spent large sums of money. You want equal field limit everyone to small donations
I oppose deregulation of banks and corporate interest
I oppose allowing company's to move corporate headquarters overseas to avoid paying taxes
I oppose letting police get away with executing minorities
More and more I have just had my fill of supporting dems who keep acting like republican lite especially with wall street and endless war.
It's easy for some to say Hillary is progressive when they don't have to relay on things like SSI,Food stamps, and Medicaid as disabled people like me have to.

(5,082 posts)Wake up. She is a centrist war hawk who is considered family by the Bushes. It's beyond disgusting. And we lose the anti-nepotism advantage nominating this quisling. And haven't any of you people learned anything from the midterms. Repubs vote for Repubs and Dems vote for Dems. Those in the middle don't vote for candidates posing as the other party. It's all come down to VOTER TURNOUT. So quit whining that our turnout is low and blaming voters. Blame yourselves. Democrats are uninspired and sick of centrist, corporate sell outs. If you want to win and want them at the polls then nominate a populist.
