Obama above water again in today's Gallup poll:

48% approve, 47% disapprove: http://www.gallup.com/home.aspx

And MSNBC mentions his improving approval ratings all the time.

but maybe the people ain't buyin' it since the other side is now in the majority in both the House and Senate.

This poll is just a media push poll. They'll find something to hammer down the presidents popularity poll when necessary.
