I don’t agree with his politics, but I’ll be the first to say that Bush is one smart guy. We were on a panel together a few years back discussing the economy, and his command of the subject was impressive.
And he’s got a sense of humor. We were talking about his brother before we went on that day, and the subject turned to the then-president’s shortcomings as a public speaker.
“What most people don’t know is that George actually speaks better in Spanish than he does in English,” Jeb said.

Willie Brown is a slimy pol, but I nevertheless fear that this will be the conventional wisdom.. sigh.
