The GOP actually has to govern instead of block everything....and it isn't working out so well.....

WASHINGTON House Republican leaders on Wednesday flatly rejected a plea from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) to pass a separate Homeland Security funding bill to avert a shutdown of the department on Feb. 27.
<...>
Boehner showed a flash of anger when pressed on the GOP's failing strategy.
"Why don't you ask the Senate Democrats when they're going to get off their ass and do something," he told reporters, "other than to vote no?"
Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid's (D-NV) office shot back at Boehner, with a hint of glee over GOP struggles to resolve the standoff.
"We know Speaker Boehner is frustrated but cursing is not going to resolve the squabbling among Republicans that led to this impasse," Adam Jentleson, Reid's spokesman, said in an email. "The Republican Congress is a mess, pure and simple."
He claimed Republicans are in this jam because Boehner and McConnell are "unwilling to stand up to Senator [Ted] Cruz."

Besides that, the corporate media is beating war drums 24/7. The senseless murders of human beings, i.e. 3 Muslim students barely mentioned. The grandfather from India who was partial paralyzed barely mentioned. Pro-Immigration protesters showing up to least 35 GOP congress offices, barely mentioned, GOPer governors along with GOP legislators effing up the working class -no mention and so on and on

(16,402 posts)[font color="navy" face="Verdana"]"We expect the Democrats to treat us the way they would like to have been treated."
This was on the occasion of one of the last GOP sweeps in Congress, during the W Lost Years, I think. It was right after Republicans spent two years treating Democrats like dirt, denying a committee use of a conference room, forcing them to meet in a virtual closet and then mocking them for it, as well as heaping countless other indignities, rudeness, and obstruction upon them.
They knew they had payback coming then and they know they have it coming now, fully deserved. Fortunately, Democrats are generally unwilling to sidetrack The People's business in search of proper payback, but every little whine from the hypocrites is music to my ears.

Everyone was having a ball. It was critical but upbeat and jokingly irreverent.
I kept thinking how confrontational everything is today.
And how some bits would be met with swooning righteous indignation today....

(96 posts)The GOP calling the Democratic minority in the Senate obstructionists? Really?
How about all the Republican filibusters in the Senate the past 6 years? Reid wasn't afraid to bring things to the floor for a vote but he knew which items would fall to a filibuster. Even a filibuster threat was enough to keep bills from being debated and voted on.
I hope the Democrats and the President play good cop / bad cop. They need to coordinate their plays. The Democrats should filibuster and create a ruckus on issues with which most Americans agree. And for those items that are a bit more dicey or could be used against Democrats in 2016 let Obama veto the bills.
I am going to buy a case of popcorn this weekend at Costco (have only stepped inside a Walmart 3 x in my life when they were my only option) and get ready for a fun 2 years.

(8,267 posts)about our Congress du jour. Our entire political system is corrupted by the corporate megalomaniacs who've usurped our media, our politics AND our global economy.
I know it pains some of us to hear our politics described as Kabuki Theater, but it bears repeating. Most of our politicians are in DC for the fame and fortune that befalls those "celebrated" few who are supposed to work for us, the Hoi Polloi. I can count on one hand the number of politicians who seem genuinely invested in "governing" our nation.

"Why don't you ask the Senate Republicans when they're going to get off their ass and do something"
No backbone Democrats however just allowed the Repukes to block everything brought up for a vote
But now of course Repukes are getting a dose of their own meds
